I don't think that's normal. I would contact Blanco and see what they suggest.

Never heard of that happening before to a Silgranit sink, and I have been on the forum for many years, and myself had a Silgranit sink for years. Definitely contact Blanco. Also, call them, don't email them; they are better via the phone. They have good customer service.

I didn't see Bar Keepers Friend on your list of things you've tried. Try that. It's available in any supermarket.

I will be on the lookout for Bar Keepers Friend (hoping its available in Canada.) :) If that doesn't work, I will be calling Blanco. I kept thinking surely the magic eraser will take it out...that thing works on everything. I should also say that we have a water softener, so it shouldn't be from super hard water.

Kristen_rebecca - I just did a search on Bar Keepers Friend website, and it is available in Canada. I hope it works for you, but please report back what Blanco says.

Great! We do have a Canadian Tire in town so I can check there. Thanks! I didn't even see the drop down menu when I looked.

And I will try resoaking it with more oil and leaving it on longer this time. I think I tried an hour so will leave it on much longer or overnight. Think either oil will work the same? I couldn't find any mineral oil in the house so tried olive and canola. I've never used any cleaners in it with bleach. but will make sure not to for the future now. Up till I googled and came up with gardenweb I hadn't tried anything. I've been going through the list of ideas now though!

Well after a couple hard scrubbings by my husband with the spray version of Bar Keepers Friend More (which is all they carry here) and another round of oil, I can say that the marks are still there. :( So I will give a call to Blanco later today or tomorrow and see what they say. Dang.

Blanco makes a cleaner for their Silgranit sinks that works great and helps prevent that from reoccurring. A little goes a long way.

You should contact Blanco. I have the exact same sink and that is not normal.

Did you hear back from Blanco? I have a new Metallic Gray Silgranit sink and am looking for a cleaner. I've been using liquid Barkeeper's Friend, but have a grease-looking stain that I can't get out. I have also tried Soft Scrub.

@RenoGirl and @Allison Gillaspie what every happened w stains in your sink? about to purchase a granite composite and Blanco metallic gray is an option....I know you posted. while ago but curious how you all made out w everything....thank you!

I’ve had the sink for five years and love it! I clean it with liquid barkeepers cleaner with the soft side of the sponge. I dry it, then rub in mineral oil to shine it up.

kaiegirl123 Thankfully the story had a happy ending. I was able to extremely lessen the marks by using the barkeepers friend liquid version and then polishing the sink with olive oil repeatedly. Its been a few years now and the sink has held up really well. I've loved the sink and would repurchase if we ever moved. it resists stains really well. I think the very first stain happened before we ever used oil on it when my husband filled the sink with water and then did some really oily dishes and never rinsed the sink out. so the oil sat and penetrated in those spots. it took several layers of washing and oiling to get it evened out. since we keep the sink sparkly and polished with oil now it also seems to resist stains even better. my mom has the same sink now and loves it too.

So glad to come across this. We just got the Blanco metallic grey sink 2 weeks ago and just noticed the “oily looking spots”. Thank you for sharing what you learned. I had never heard we have to oil the thing. I need to buy some bar keepers friend and figure what kind of oil to use. Can you explain what exactly you do and how often? Thanks!!

Laurie Holmes I clean the sink first with liquid Barkeepers Friend, rinse extremely well, dry it with a towel, then add a fair amount of avocado oil or olive oil to a couple paper towels, adding more as needed as I shine. I wipe the sink down till its all evenly shiny and then let it sit. Thats it. No rinsing or removing. I usually do this about 2x a month or when its looking especially faded and dry.

Thank you so much for this thread. I also just got a Blanco metallic grey sink and it had the exact same spots as you describe. I tried 1) paste of water and baking soda and scrub with a sponge for 5 min, 2) thick application of Dawn liquid dish soap, let it sit for 5 min, then scrub with a sponge for 5 min, 3) Bar Keepers Friend cleaning powder, 4) BlancoClean Daily+ Sink Cleaner, applied thick layer and let it sit for 7 min, then scrub. None of this worked.

I contacted the manufacturer and here's what they suggested.

Silgranit sinks are non-porous and are a solid color all the way through and therefore stains are only on the surface and all food grade stains can be removed. I would suggest the below two methods:

1. Fill the sink with very hot water and adding 2-3 cups of white vinegar. Once the water has cooled, drain and you can then use a Scotch Brite pad or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and give it a little scrub with a baking soda and water paste. Once the sink is clean you can apply a thin layer of mineral oil, and this will usually rejuvenate the look of the Silgranit.
2. Dishwasher Tablets- Fill sink with HOT water into the bowl, dissolve a tablet overnight, and then scrub with scotch-Brite nylon pad and then thoroughly rinse with dish soap and water. Apply a thin coat of mineral oil to restore the sheen.

For me, suggestion #1 worked beautifully. However, I think the key was the thin layer of mineral oil. Reading this thread, and seeing that others tried various types of oil, gave the confidence to try it. I'm glad I did!
