Drawer pull placement on shaker style drawers
Comments (13)I did shaker fronts on all areas 9" or taller, and slabs on the rest. I thought full shaker would look too busy since I have some small drawers. We have cup pulls on all drawers and knobs on all doors. Here's where I get stupid. :) (Not really, we're building and don't move in until this week and exact placement of hardware is eluding me right now...) I think our cup pulls are centered on slab fronts and rail-mounted on shaker fronts. I have some pics at home and will be happy to share this evening if you're interested. Now it's bugging me that I can't remember!...See MoreNatural finish hickory floors with Oak 3-panel shaker doors
Comments (2)I find red oak to have a pink/cinnamon cast to it...whereas the maple/hickory are MUCH MORE gold. I foresee a clash of undertones with the red oak. Of course, if you PAINT THEM your fine. But a natural (even a stained finish) with red oak is going to cast a different colour of wood. The maple cabs, though a pale fleshy colour right now, WILL turn to a slightly darker GOLD. In a year or so, the cabs should be a very close gold/yellow match to the gold in the hickory (which is why I like the two woods put together). The red oak, will start out a pinky fleshy reddish hue...and stay that way. It will clash until you stain them or paint them. Your current front doors are OK-ish. The brown is just about right for the hickory. A snick on the reddish side but nothing I would lose sleep over. That's as "reddish" as you want to go with hickory. Red Oak will be worse until you paint....See MoreKitchen cabinets - MDF versus hardwood doors/drawer fronts
Comments (9)You said you ordered the Doors wood with MDF panel - that will not eliminate the paint fissures from expansion and contraction - the wood parts will still move. The mdf panel helps because it is not moving but it is not the cure all. I have a company who does doors made of all MDF but put together like a regular door is and while the paint lines are minimal they are not marketing the product as not ever getting those lines. It will still be possible but much less. As far as chipping goes, I think that will happen no matter what the door is made of. Have a conversation with your KD and see what the real deal is and go from there....Maybe they will let you use one of the doors as a test... bang it around, bump it with pots, soak it with water, spill stuff on it and see what you think ( but you should try that with wood too....) Good luck!...See MoreMDF Center Panel on Kitchen Cabinet Drawers??
Comments (2)MDF will be fine. The screws of most cabinet/drawer hardware don't "bite" into the wood - the screws are inserted through the back of the drawer front directly into the hardware (with LocTite)....See Moreabpatel80
