Moisture Barrier over Concrete Slab
Comments (15)Well, its been almost 6 months since you posted about your Bamboo - how did it go and how is it holding up??? We installed 1000 feet of this exact product in Nov 2012 - we are currently in the process of pulling it all up,, YUCH... moisture issue???? not really sure what happened,,, installer is being real good and standing behind it all - the house is 1/2 up and the rest is coming out tomorrow.. going with eng Hickory in its place - also laying down a very expense moisture barrier (painted on) Only used Glue that was suppose to have a moisture barrier in it??? floor was 14 years old in Central CA - maybe 10" of rain a year and NO problems in the past... anyway,, moisture test is in progress at this moment - Wish you luck with your Bamboo - wife liked it but it does NOT like any moisture and does NOT like spoons dropped on it,, LOL - still a very pretty floor,,, oh well, live moves on...See MoreExcessive Moisture Concrete Slab Sealing
Comments (6)We had a similar situation. Our home is in SW Florida, and is almost 40 years old. It was the house my husband grew up in...we bought from his mother. In our remodeling of this house, we decided to put HW down in the "rec room" and dining room. The "rec room" is a sunken (5 inches lower) area on the South side of the house. While we've had no problem with the Brazilian Cherry floor in the Dining room, the entire Rec room had to be redone, as we had terrible buckling and warping of that wood. Our original installer had done NOTHING to the floor before the install. (We had someone else come out and tear that floor out and do the new one.) We had the same situation you describe with the moist areas underneath anything that sat on the concrete also. When we did a calcium chloride test, there wasn't anything for the lab to test because there was so much moisture!! Here's what we did, and I know this will be met with some disagreement. Our installer contacted the Bostic company who suggested their MVP product. They said if he covered the entire floor, repeated the Calcium Chloride test and got acceptable (verifiable) results, they would stand behind their product, and the warranty. He did just that, painted a coating over the whole floor, and retested. AMAZINGLY enough, it did block the moisture and he went ahead and reinstalled a beautiful BR-111 Brazilian Cherry floor. It's now been down 4 months and we haven't had any problems. (THe other floor warped within weeks of installation.) I KNOW THIS ISN"T THE SOLUTION FOR EVERYONE, AND I KNOW MANY SUGGEST "NO HARDWOOD OVER CONCRETE"!! But if you're like me, you live in Florida, you know there are plenty of Florida Homes with HWFloors...there must be a way!!!! This is a GREAT forum...with many knowledgable folks. I just wanted to post my experience. Not saying it's the right way to go, just what we did in a similar situation. Good Luck!...See MoreIs solid wood flooring now acceptable on slab?
Comments (8)The restoration company didn't give our floor a chance to cup or delaminate. They pried them up immediately or at least a portion of it. The part that is left looks ok as far as I can see, but it's hard to see with all the stuff on it. We had a leak under the sink and the water went under the walls and through several rooms before dh got home from work and turned off the water. He called the insurance co and they told him to call this company. He did and they came right over, set up their fans and dehumidifiers and started chipping up the wood flooring, lifted the carpet and padding, drilled holes in all our cabinets to run air tubes under them. The wood flooring was still glued well. Dh said they splintered it to pieces trying to get it up. I don't know why they didn't try to just dry it out, I wasn't here. Dh thought it was because water would be trapped under it and wick through to the sheetrock and framing. But they never said so we really don't know. He was moving our furniture off the wet carpet when he heard the hammering and when he came to look, they were prying it up....See More100% Moisture in Florida Concrete Slab 2011 Home
Comments (9)Why would the tile floor have been fine for 8 years and suddenly this happened if there were an issue with the installation to begin with? The leak detection company said in their report it is a ground water issue penetrating our foundation. Could this be caused by the vapor retarder under our foundation failing or if there wasn’t one installed at all since it has taken 8 years since construction to start seeing these issues? Inside of our home they are detecting 90-100% moisture readings. Where the tile has lifted the remaining grout has dark spots that appear to be wet....See MoreSJ McCarthy
