Replacing glass in Kolbe window?

Olychick

Several years ago I had all my windows replaced with Kolbe wood windows. Recently, a bird (I guess) flew into my bathroom window and shattered the outside pane of the thermopane glass. The interior piece is intact. It's a small double hung window and the upper portion is what's broken. I called a window/glass company about replacing the glass and they said they have never successfully replaced glass in these windows because the trim pieces holding it in splinter when trying to remove them. I tried to call the Kolbe distributor for my area, but seems they don't return calls or respond to emails.

I can have the whole window replaced, but wonder if that is really necessary, or should someone be able to replace the pane? I don't want to find someone who says, "Oh, sure we can do it," then be stuck if they actually can't get the window put back together again.
