Comments (1)Might be pretty tough as they(as well as everyone else) has changed especially casement hardware at least several times. The sash locks have become sequential and the operators changed at least twice. Where are you located i used to sell Kolbe maybe I can help....See MoreKolbe and Kolbe Impact Glass windows
Comments (5)Kritlyn-We got our Hurd bid back yesterday and if we use Hurd versus Kolbe and Kolbe we will save about 20%. We have a lot of windows and doors so this adds up. But then I started looking up more about Hurd and some people have apparently had problems with them. There was even a class action law suit about some gas trapped in the windows. However, all this information was years ago and it wasn't talking about the impact rated windows. (Plus, Hurd has since been bought out and is under new managment..good or bad I don't know) I have also read one site where people didn't like Kolbe and Kolbe. But I know that in the San Destin area a lot of people use both Kolbe and Kolbe and Hurd for their impact windows. We don't know what we are going to do yet. Apparently our contractor has never heard of Hurd. They didn't say we couldn't use them but they did emphasize how comfortable they are with Kolbe and Kolbe. Then again, we do stand to save a lot of money and the Hurd windows have been repeatedly tested and are Miami Dade rated. This is hard isn't it?! I am putting a link because I found it difficult to find any impact information on Hurd's site. Apparently, their impact product is fairly new but there have been a few hurricanes where the windows got tested in the real world. If you find out something let me know too. Thanks. I wonder if I should start a new posting with Hurd in the title to attract those with any information about Hurd Impact. Maybe I will do that so look there too and hopefully we will learn something. Comments (6)I am also building a home in Houston and my mind is dizzy from all the window manufacturers I have researched. Which one did you pick? I also looked at RAM windows, Western windows, Marvin and JeldWen Epicvue. The house is going to be Modern so I just want sleek lines and black windows, without breaking the bank. So far Western seems to be the most expensive....See MoreMarvin Elevate vs. Kolbe Ultra vs. Kolbe VistaLuxe
Comments (32)I think the lead time was about 6 month or 7 months when we ordered. My memory is starting to get a bit hazy. I think we ordered in July 2021 some time. We started demo Nov 2021. They left our original windows in until the new ones arrived. They arrived in waves though... probably half arrived on time, then a couple weeks later we got a couple more, then a couple more. We had one corner glass window that was basically just a frame (glass is ordered from a glass shop locally). It was not square and had to be unistalled (our contrator did all the installing). He said the windows were not perfect (they are handmade by people), but that they were better than most that he's been installing. I found a local Kolbe guy (I think he's some sort of engineer, but I could be wrong). He was really helpful connecting me to the right people and getting a fix for the not square window. Kolbe's repair guy (he drives all over the western states fixing window problem) came out and cut the frame and put it back together so it was 90 degrees. We got it installed and then the glass guys installed some window piece upside down. Ugh... so had to order new strips of wood from Kolbe which took a few more weeks. Our window shop Window's N Things in Canoga Park was good and kept following up with Kolbe. I also called Kolbe directly and they were very honest with me about how long everything would take. Overall, I'm happy with my windows. It's just a process. Good luck....See MoreOlychick
