Decorated too early
Comments (14)I could leave up my Christmas decos for months and probably not tire of them. Every year I tell myself i'll have them up a few days after Th'g, but I never get them up until a week befor Christmas, and leave them up for about two weeks after Christmas. One of the things I really enjoy is lighting candles because it makes me *think* of the holidays. I light them every night. I buy Carolina candles from Kohl's in the Sandalwood scent, but use a larger size patio candle for only .64 I found on sale at Joann's,so bought a bunch. I use these in decorative holders where a larger candle is needed, but don't like to use a votive because they are not self-contained,and I end up with with a pile of wax very difficult to get out. On occassion, i'll use a self-containd votive, but then I end up with too many of the glass containers. I know it sounds crazy, but I find buring a lot of candles, usually 12 or more, in a room also helps in heating it up. It's also adds a wonderful fragrance to the house that can linger for hours. The Carolina candles used to be sold in department stores and I see them in certain drug stores. They're half the price at Kohl's. ;o) patty_cakes...See MoreNeed decorating help in my country dining room (pics)
Comments (76)I love the sconces that you all posted! My chandelier is actually bronzy looking and the link to pottery barn had the finish that matched it. One thing I should probably say about my photos is they really don't accurately reflect that my chairs really do pop against the walls. For some reason they do blend in in the photo. I am afraid if I put up beadboard, my jelly cabinet would just look kind of dingy in front of it. I do love beadboard. In fact we have it in our mudroom, kitchen, and three bathrooms ttodd- I love the Sturbridge Yankee Workshop which is where I purchased George and Martha. I am glad you like the rug. Today I was looking at it and I was thinking how I do love the graphic nature of it. I have taken my rooster pillows down and I think I want some pillows with some reddish ticking . Going to paint the ceiling to tone it down. I'm also looking for a lamp or two for the jelly cabinet. Once I get a new table, will the get things for the top of that. I so appreciate everybody's help with this room....See MoreWhere do you start? Living room/dining room paint
Comments (11)I like your house ,,, nicely done!! As far as paint color, in my opinion ,,, the blue in your kitchen is a "bright" color whereas the sage color is "muted". If you took that sage color and turned it into a light lime green (think granny smith apple), then the colors would pop together (look at the inspiration photo of the spider plant next to the blue paint). For that blue ,,, I would pair with (in the same tone and intensity) lime green, yellow, tangerine, or crisp white. It really depends on how much color you want. I can see a yellow or tangerine in your dining room with those teal chairs, but I also like lime green. I would not go with tan, I would do a crisp white before tan, if I wanted to go neutral. A "tan" that would work with that color blue, I think might clash with your hardwood floors. With the hardwood floors and the mix of woods in that space (which I really like, by the way) I would put white on the walls and bring in color with accents (pillows, rugs, pictures). Also, what's up with the red room in the background? Do you like that room? Is that color staying? I really like your fireplace. Have you ever considered painting the brick? If you do go with a bright color on the wall, you might want to consider painting it white and leaving the accents black. Good luck ,,, can't wait to see the after pictures!! :)...See MoreLamp Post 2.0, A Long & Enlightening Tale
Comments (13)Thanks everyone. I jumped on these as soon as I saw them and after giving DH approximately 15 minutes to get on board, I mean provide his opinion. Don't know why they didn't come up in my many searches. They were 40% off, so they had to have been posted there for a while. Still, at 40% they pushed my budget ever so slightly. However, I have a couple auctions with bids ending today. Not sure what lampshades we'll use. We'll probably take one to the lamp store and try a bunch on!...See MoreRafer Riller jr
