Weatherman said 3 - 4" tomorrow, last night; but today it's been downgraded to about 1". I have food in the freezer, but no snack items. I'll be craving potato chips as soon as the roads are too bad to get to the Drive-thru. :)

I’m going to be making a soup today too but haven’t decided which one. We were supposed to get snow, but it’s fizzled. Would be nice if the 4 days of extra cold would fizzle too!

I have turkey carcass soup simmering. We have 5" last night to top of the 30+ inches we got in February. We are still expecting a few days of temperatures in the negative before spring breaks through!!

Your bean soup looks wonderful but I have taco soup in the freezer, so will thaw that out. We also are in a 6 inch blowing snow warning also with such low temperatures. I am so tired of this winter! The kids have missed so many days because of snow and ice, they will have to make up a lot. My DD said they have not had school on Wednesdays this year so far and does not sound promising for school on Monday....UHG!

Good to know that the snow had been downgraded. I made a pot of cream of potato soup and added some pepper jack cheese. I know, not many nutrients, but so comforting. Also sauteed some diced onion, celery, and green pepper for anyone who wants to add those to individual bowls. I don't mind the taste of all three if they are cooked in a vegetable soup, but don't like chewing them in a cream soup.

I like bean soup. We have 6-9 inches on the way. I bought a pork shoulder for pulled pork to get me through!

No snow here, but it is cold (for us) and rainy. I made oatmeal for dinner. I can't remember the last time I had oatmeal outside of cookies, but it was tasty and comforting.

Not the last blast of winter here. We still have March. I do admit this blast is going to be bad. The temperature is expected to drop to -4 F on Monday night. It is expected to break records here.

Thanks, everyone. Nicole, MamaGoose is right. It is a ham shank. I ended up sharing some of my soup but I will be making a second batch in the morning. It works better if I split a pound of beans into two batches. I added the ham shank, cubed ham, carrots and onion. It was really good. It really hit the spot for dinner tonight. I hope everyone facing this next weather event is safe.

I had a great Mardi Gras party Saturday. I plan on relaxing Sunday! And soup would be easy and good.

We aren't really wintery, but it is chilly. Your picture reminds me that I have a package of 15 bean soup in my pantry. I think I'll soak those today, and put it in the crockpot tomorrow.

Ok, I’ll make bean soup today! I get a ham hock at local butcher. I don’t know if that’s the same as the shank. It adds so much flavor that not a lot of seasoning is needed beyond that, but I do put in a bay leaves. Of course celery, onion, carrots. That’s basic bean soup but I’d be interested in other ingredients KT-ers use.

I have soup in the pressure cooker right now. Mixed vegetables and pork loin diced up.

Socks, I think the ham hock is a better choice. I went by my local butcher shop and they didn't have any ham hocks. So I went to Kroger and all they had was the ham shank. It tasted pretty good but was very fatty/greasy. So when I made the second batch today and used the second shank, I cut off all the fat I could and it made the soup much better. I use a bay leaf as well.

I changed my mind. You know what else sour cream is good for...? Cheesecake! Yep....so.....I made a keylime cheesecake, with cherry pie topping and spinach lasagna with ground beef.

A bay leaf sounds like a yummy addition to your soup! I made split pea soup with a little bit of onion I'd cooked in bacon grease for flavor.....last week. I just purchased Joanna Gaines new cookbook, Magnolia Table, to get some new, fresh ideas for meals.

Today in honor of Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras we are having hot boudin and fried eggs with French bread toast!
