L.A. trip not for roses, but what other blooms to see now?
Comments (10)I've always wanted to visit the Descanso Gardens myself, and will some day. If you come up to the Bay Area as you said you might, you can visit Filoli in Woodside (English style garden), which is just opening back up on February 7th, the Hakone Garden (Japanese garden)in Saratoga, and maybe you could meet me for coffee! We missed meeting on your last trip. I'd suggest that you could come see my garden but all you'd see would be bare pruned roses bushes. To go on listing the delights that await you, in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park there is the Strybling Arboretum. and in Palo Alto, the (much smaller but quite nice) Gamble Garden. There would be a lot going on at Strybling. I don't know what there would be in February at the Gamble Garden and I don't see a bloom calendar on their site. http://www.filoli.org/explore-filoli/the-garden/blooming-calendar.html http://www.hakonegardens.org/gardens/seasons.html http://www.sfbotanicalgarden.org/Gardens/index.html http://www.sfbotanicalgarden.org/Gardens/index.html Rosefolly...See MoreThe Roses are almost ready to start blooming!
Comments (14)Beautiful,Rita. Yes, I`m crazy enough that pictures of buds are interesting! Now, the photos of your blooming roses are lovely. Love the perfect black magic.I notice that there is a lily stem in one picture. I have read that you have planted many lilies. Some with your daylilies and some with roses. You are very lucky that you have NO rabbits. When all of these plants start to bloom you will have a paradise. Love your clematis, too. Thanks for the pictures....Lesley...See MoreNWFL roses pruned and ready for spring
Comments (26)Evelyn is one of those that I hear great things about or that she is stingy. So that's very interesting to hear of your experiences since you are paying attention to the ph, thank you! I have some in pots and she is very vigorous so far, but no buds yet, unlike Sharifa Asma. But I'm afraid that SA will just turn white in full sun summer heat. My soil is sandy but not as white as yours. I had seriously considered Abraham Darby but heard that he liked to BS so decided to avoid last summer. But I must like a challenge because I just bought 40 more BS magnets like Angel Face! So he'll fit in fine if he does BS, LOL!...See MoreSo many posts! But so many blooms! How to stop?!
Comments (14)Thanks Jim! Lily here's a pic of MOP. Hard to tell a lot but she's prob 21/2 by 3 right now and loaded with buds. Love her! Judy enabled me on this one and many more lol We are quite hopeless when it comes to roses! And lots of other stuff haha!...See Moresara_ann-z6bok
