How dark is too dark? Powder
Comments (26)Annie, love your powder room! Great color, my master bedroom is painted coral and I love it. I adore your over the top elements, work perfectly in your room! Linelle, that's funny that you should say that about the green. We have 3 bathrooms in our home, the other two are painted Tiffany blue and cocoa. I will bypass both of those bathrooms and head to the powder room if I am feeling queasy. I find the green much more calming then either of the other bathrooms. My daughter on the other hand, much prefers the blue bathroom....See MoreAdvice on bathroom art? Frame color too dark?
Comments (22)Thanks everybody! The frame is "black walnut" which I thought was a very dark wood, and it is, but it definitely reads like black. I will try to accessorize with a few other darker tones and I'm sure my eye will eventually get used to it. Comments (3)What specific paint did you use? Brand, grade and sheen? Takes a lot for top tier paints like Aura matte to burnish. I've personally never seen Aura matte in dark colors burnish unless someone takes a Mr. Clean magic eraser to the walls....See MoreCrushing on this dark wall and these dark cabs..
Comments (16)Picking colors for a home can be overwhelming and I think it is great that you are exploring this early and not waiting until the painters are ready to start to begin your search. I hate seeing posts where the OP needs to pick colors by tomorrow because the painters are showing up at 8 am. When I am choosing colors I generally start with a core color palette based on the colors that the home owner loves. My sister loves fall colors, golds, desaturated greens, orange reds, while I prefer winter colors Wine reds, purples, teals and my sister in law loves pastel cornflower blues and corals. Our styles are also quite varied. My sister has antique furnishings, I have MCM and my SIL is country. This general idea helps you pick flooring, cabinets, countertops that are going to work with the colors you love and your style. Once you have picked the big items that have limited color choices you move forward with defining how you will incorporate the colors you love throughout your home to create a feeling of harmony as you walk from room to room. I usually pick a neutral for the main living spaces and hallways and bring colors in through décor and then I use color on the walls in the rooms that are off the main living spaces and hallways. I tweak the final color selections based on the feeling I want to evoke and the lighting....See Morehoussaon
