Every paint needs time to cure, matte or not. Sis, you did not say if this was a dark color or not. I do think there tends to be more of a problem with deeper colors. I have not figured out the burnishing thing. There are people who claim they can scrub F&B Estate Emulsion with no burnishing. I could not. I have had EK matte paint that scrubbed beautifully in one house and burnished badly in another. In that case, I think it was a bad application. With the burnishing F&B, I did the painting myself (I am a good painter) and there were three coats on the wall. Anyway, I think there is more to it than just what kind of paint we buy. It might be the base used, the substrate, the prep job, the application technique, or a combination of factors. I just honestly don't know. One technique I have used successfully to touch up matte walls is to dab paint on with a small sea sponge, feathering the edges so there is no clear edge. You might give that a shot. Good luck!

I have a 3 y/o and matte paint. I'm perpetually familiar with the oiled handprints that are all over my walls. I use a barely damp microfiber cloth (half damp, half dry). Rub the damp part over the marks just once or twice, then rub with the dry part. I've found that by rubbing with the dry, and sort of feathering out the moisture, I can avoid a lot of the "swirl" marks that water can leave on the paint. That takes care of almost everything. If something is left that isn't fixed that way, I usually just touch up the paint. One of the perks of matte paint.

If it does prove to be a "builders'-flat" in a deep-tint-base.... * Flats burnish pretty easily, as Paintguy suggests. * The REASON is...flats have more pigment in relation to the overall %-age of binder-volume than any other sheen. (simplistically, the "binder" of a paint is the main source of a paints' "sheen".) * Also, DARK flats have EVEN MORE pigment (in the form of lots of colorant) in them! * Without much "sheened" binder to protect all that pigment, a flat will therefore "burnish", or "shed pigment" much more easily than even an Eggshell. Yes, flats touch-up the best... BUT...as I stated on an earlier thread, many builders & painters are WAAAAY too focused on this one small factor of paint. >>> There is MUCH more to living-with a paint than "how it'll touch-up"!!! Matching into a line like Aura, or C2 would be smart. These lines have more than the typical 10-12 colorants. Our C2 has 16 colorants...much easier to "build" a color-match when there's more "ammo" to use! Plus, the "Percent Volume Solids" of premium paints is 35-40%. C2's Flat PVS is over 43%. Builders-flats can be as low as 20%! Faron
