How much difference does the rootstock really make?

Different rootstocks get discussed a lot on this forum, I was wondering, if it’s a good rose for your particular location, and you’ve had success with both multiflora and Dr. Huey, does the rootstock matter? I guess this could apply to own root too. I know many of us have been pleased with a lot of the newer Kordes roses. Most of mine are on multiflora, with the exception of my two Dark Desires, which are own root, and have also performed well. Would they all do just as good on Dr. Huey? Another rose I planted last year (not Kordes) on multiflora, Gold Medal, did great on that rootstock and the two I tried previously on Dr. Huey didn’t do good for me at all. I’m also anxious to see how my two Tiffany roses on multiflora do, compared to my two Dr. Huey ones, which I’ve been pleased with. Since I’ve had success and sometimes failures with both rootstocks, I’m wondering how much difference the rootstock really makes?
