This is very skilled, backbreaking stoop labor. EYE sure wouldn't do it 8 hours a day! I said, well, it would also go a way toward ending the constant cycle of RMV. Keith din't wanna discuss that. Of course, this was long before the sale of the company, when they were introducing "New Gen." I've HEARD that the people who bought J&P have a tissue culture operation. If true, I think that would indicate a shift in production methods? Ya know, the old Armstrong Roses Co. built the Somis, CA facility that J&P now uses. It's about 3 miles from here. It has a huge tissue culture facility, which is shuttered and dis-used. Armstrong basically went broke over it. The public, then, was not ready to accept small, own-root plants. Comments (4)If the fill in the floor is normal, and it is, then the manufacturer should specifically mention it in their warranty documents. So, send him a copy of that warranty with a pound sand letter. As you should have done in the beginning instead of exposing your soft underbelly. If the manufacturer doesn't specifically address the issue in written documentation, then you have a two fold problem. The first being that the guy kinda has a point here, even if he is a scammer. If the specs ain't in writing, a verbal conversation isn't sufficient to set expectations. And you need to offer to refund him completely after he returns the flooring. He doesn't get to keep the money and the floor. Pick one or the other. But the second issue is more troubling for you. Why are you dealing with a manufacturer who doesn't have full specs written down? That exposed you to liability. If they don't have the balls to tell their customers that fill and short boards are normal, are you willing to carry that burden alone with no backup? I wouldn't be. That's a conversation of another sort between the company decision makers and the manufacturer. Either be my ally, or get your product out of my store. I'd rather carry slightly lower quality product with clear documentation to back up my setting expectations than higher quality with nothing in writing. Comments (35)Sorry Snidely, gotta disagree with you on this one. You're representing totally subjective terms as being absolute fact, which they're not. I totally disagree that drip is "more flavorful". There certainly is no documentation to that claim, since there's no objective way to quantify the claim. It's all subjective, it's a matter of taste. A good number of people agree with me that a percolator is a far more flavorful coffee than drip. Saying coffee was poorer in the past is again totally subjective. Today's foo-foo coffees that are so fashionable are generally favored by those who need to have it diluted with creamers, flavorings and sugar in order to drink it since they don't want a coffee taste. They need it adulterated to drink it. Hardly makes that a better coffee than the past. Different, yes, but not better. My position is the same holds true for cooking a ham. I prefer it be the meat, and appreciate the quality and taste of it rather than covering it with sugars. I don't think a steak needs to be covered with ketchup or steak sauce but some will tell you unequivocally better so buried. Today's society requires the addition of ridiculous amounts of sugar to make things "better". Sweeter isn't always better to a developed palate. To those raised on fast food, frozen food and prepared by mediocre cooks, sugar saves the day for them. Not for me. The other point few people understand is the quality of water required. IMO, you don't make good coffee with lousy water. And all the Starbucks and foo-foo "coffees" (which calling them coffee is argumentative anyway), together with an uncleaned maker of any type, using tap water as most all of them do, is what people want to call "better" when IMO it's far from it. Many of these places might filter their water which can help but it doesn't help when they don't change the filters which is a common negligence. Many people don't know good coffee from bad because they've never used good water, never clean their maker and never drink it unadulterated. Comments (15)Eighty years ago there were small covered, rubber-tired wagons drawn by one horse going down most streets of many/most cities in our part of the world, and the horse knew where to go and where to stop next. One carried bread, one carried milk and one carried ice, with the salespeople carrying a selection of the goods into the homes, and the ice man chopped a chunk of ice from the big block, carried it into the house and put it into one of two or three compartments of a wooden box in the kitchen, called an "ice box", it kept the perishable foods reasonably cool, and the housewife emptied water from the melted ice from a pan in in the bottom from time to time. Seventy years ago they began building refrigerators. Of the refrigerators built sixty and fifty years ago, quite a few of them lasted for forty years. Refrigerators built today last only about ten years. I've told this story dozens of times over recent months, and many of the listeners step into the conversation at that point, and many of them say the same three words ... "IF ... YOU'RE ... LUCKY!!!" The decrease in average lifespan being mainly due to the engineers planning them having become so much stupider over the years, do you figure?? Could it be that if a fridge is built to last for about ten years (or, as some claim, that their new ones lasted for only a year or even less) ... the builders would sell a great many more fridges ... resulting in providing them greater profits?? It takes a great deal of precious petroleum to mine and smelt the metal, and be the source for the plastics to build our fridges. And as millions in the third world are joining the middle class and buying fridges ... ... building them to last for only 10 years or less is a greedy luxury that, wasting our precious resources, adding to pollution and global warming as it is doing increasingly, we cannot continue doing!
