Laundry Room, Entry Room Combo Dilemma
Comments (8)Taking into consideration all the comments and your pictures I might try the following. Put a ceiling to floor pantry cabinet in the spot where the current white base cabinet is, taking out the upper above. More consolidated pantry. I'd stack the w/d on the right of the window wall. Put a bench with a back under the window and run the hoses behind the bench back. To the right of the w/d you could even hang a drop leaf table, that could be lifted into place for folding. Or put the pantry in like I mentioned. Take all uppers down and put in a mudroom hutch/seat built-in, utilizing an opening for the heater below and room for shoes, and having storage above. On the wall with the water valve run a cabinet in an L shape with hanging rod incorporated into an upper set of cabinets if there is room. Still stack the set. The laundry could go into cubbies under the base cabinet open shelving along the water valve wall....See MoreOrg. Dilemma: Gear room, Mud room, Laundry
Comments (15)Mom of seven here. We farm which means everyone has two full wardrobes of everything: Farm and Town. I have some quick ideas for you, no time to be diplomatic sorry. You need to purge. Dozens of hats are not necessary for six people. Choose two each: one light weight beanie and one really warm toque. Ditto mittens/gloves: one lighter weight for dashing to the grocery store, one heavy pair for skiing etc. Each person's stuff will fit in one basket. No one needs more than one pair of Crocs or flip flops. Those can go on a shoe rack by the door. Put a towel hook over the closet door, that's where everyone can store their towel. Colour coding avoids fights: Payton can't say that Blake stole her towel if hers is yellow and his is green. Bathing suits can be stored where they change. Check out the rental area at your local ski hill. Recreate that storage situation with one set of boots and skis for each. You mentioned that this kind of equipment is stored outside but: I see ski boots! Where you have a hanging rod, instead install a pullout clothes drying rack. Put one over the laundry sink too. The white organizer looks disfunctional in that it seems stuff can tumble out easily and it's too hard to see what's at the bottom of each bin. A basket or drawer on a bench is best in my experience, those cube organizers are ok too but then they have to pull a drawer out and hold it while they search. Instead I would put a deep bench or two under the hooks and set baskets on it. A coffee table actually works well for this. Put boot trays in front of it to catch drips. The hooks are too high for anyone under twelve to reach independently. Lower them for the kids. Add shelves above them. Having said that, I don't see any toddler stuff here. Time for peeps to get responsible....See MoreTiny awkward laundry room
Comments (8)First of all, see if you can get that dryer closer to the wall. Google "flat dryer vent" and you'll get an idea of what you can use to minimize space lost. Since the door is right there, I assume that this is some kind of mud room? In which case maybe you can paint...If it's a part of the kitchen, then it will need to stay that way. I've used these in Laundry rooms just for fun: They're decals that are not sticky, remove cleanly and you can get them in any color you like. You can get one of these for items that need to hang to dry.. Pottery Barn has them , but you can get them elsewhere for less, I'm sure. If you want, you can even get removable decals for the washer and dryer... Your shelves can be organized with cute baskets in whatever color you like... Labels will stick to these...I've done it and it works...Or you can tie cute kraft paper tags to the handles... Just because it's a small space, doesn't mean that it can't make you smile :)...See MoreTINY laundry room
Comments (8)If you’re an ikea shopper, take a look at their shoe cabinets. They aren’t deep, just enough to hold a pair of shoes so they don’t protrude too much into the room, have a nice top like a counter and securely attach to the walls and come in very livable colors. I have a few in my laundry room but instead of holding shoes I keep my detergent and powders and Clorox pens and a little bin for lint and lost buttons and change. I even keep extra hangers in one. The compartments tilt open and the size just seems well suited for all kinds of cleaners...plus I’m not reaching over my head to push things out of the way to grab something and then it leaves the room above the cabinets to hang a bar to hang clothes on....See MoreGail
