Help with Bathroom Decor

We need help with finalizing our bathroom. We’re trying to decide if we can put a mounted medicine cabinet over our sink or if it will be sticking out too far since we have a narrow vanity and sink? We can’t put a recessed one in.

The other choice is to do a flat mirror over sink and a wall cabinet over toilet. But will that seem like too many things in a small bathroom? Attached are some pictures of what we have thus far, except we aren’t crazy about this medicine cabinet.

If we do a flat mirror and wall cabinet over toilet we’re considering the attached choices. We could also flip the light. Would love opinions. Thanks!

I would go with the flat mirror and the cabinet. You can put lots of things in the cabinet and add folded towels and some nice accessories on that shelf. Not as much storage space in the medicine cabinet. It also depends on whether this is the main bath, a guest bath or a powder room.

I agree with Cpartist"s layout and like moving the closet over as suggested by D M so that bedroom 3 has easier access to the bathroom. Do you have room to have the toilet face the tub and add a linen cabinet next to the toilet? How wide is the tub toilet area?

agree with @lkloes a simple mirror. I would also change out the rug to a solid color. the light fixture is extreme. Bare Bulbs shinng into your eyes is offensive. centering the light and vanity would be more pleasing as you look into the room. the 40's hex on the shower wall would have been timeless on the floor, with a simple white subway tile. The black closes in the walls... just sayin' Now that you've gone so dark, why not extend the black tile to the vanity wall?

Would you consider matching up one of the taupe tiles from the floor for the walls? I love whites, but sometimes it doesn't finish a space. It almost feels like a primer. This happened to me in a recent renovation. My monitor might not be interpreting the colors of your floor, but you get the idea. Tiny guest bathroom, with SW Sea Salt walls I wanted to keep the walls white but it felt unfinished. I know it's different than yours because you have a dark vanity.

I would test it out this way:

Find a box about thickness of the medicine cabinet (like a Kleenex box, maybe) and lightly tape it to the wall with blue painters tape.

Brush your teeth and bend at the waist to spit.

If you hit your head (or felt too close to the faux mirror) then that's your answer.

I think a flat or pivot mirror would work best, and maybe a small corner shelf to the right of the vanity (assuming there is a corner there) for everyday needs like qtips, etc. Brushing my teeth was the only time I ever felt closed in by a mirror like this, and my bangs did brush it when i went to rinse my mouth. I agree with a mirror over the sink. You might consider two sconce lights one on either side of the mirror. For what ever you would put into a medicine cabinet, can you put those items in a drawer under the sink? So glad we did the same..... removed the cabinet, replaced with a mirror. I thought I needed so much storage in the bathroom, until I realized I just was keeping to much stuff in there anyway. Got rid of most of the stuff, survived living without it, now there are clean lines and a more open airy feel to the bathroom,

Since this is your master bath and there doesn't seem to be any drawers in the vanity, where will you put toothbrushes, etc? Is there room for a larger vanity? Or room on another wall for storage of any kind?
