Granite for White & Dark Cherry cabinets
Comments (0)I touched on this in an earlier post, but figured it needed its own thread. I'm struggling with finding a granite that can work with both white (or ivory) cabinets and a darker cherry (which will be our island's base). I'm hoping for something somewhat neutral rather than busy and dramatic. However it's a struggle to find something makes the room feel warm without being too dramatic a contrast with the white. Currently prefer colors in the creme/gold/tan-brown category rather than greens and blacks. Thanks!...See MoreHelp- Light or dark countertops with white cabs in small kitchen?
Comments (19)Thanks, everyone! Wow, I really appreciate the thoughts, and the example kitchens, both of which are gorgeous. I'm going to be installing undercabinet lighting. And I may install recessed lighting and/or a pendant over the peninsula, but I'm waiting on that. I'll keep looking toward light counters... some of the granites that I have found i like in photos (kashmir white for instance) aren't readily available in my area (I think that its quarry closed down anyway). I've been having a difficult time finding a light granite that I really like but going out to look again today. I don't want to go too gray as an undertone but would prefer balance of warm/cool in the mix of colors. Or just quartz... So any suggestions on that, based on your experience, also appreciated! (Organic white Ceasarstone- check, I'll look at that one!) If I can't come up with a definite on the counter by tomorrow, I have to give a cabinet color.... given my Super White trim, and the fact that the kitchen has no light, I'm thinking something that blends with that but is not so stark white. Decorator white sound good?...See MoreNeed help picking granite for light maple cabinets...
Comments (45)I agree, don't put quartz on old cabinets. You will not recoup your investment. Leave it as is, adjust the price accordingly and save your money for you new home. You cannot know that a new owner will paint the cabinets white, or any other color. Maybe they prefer the natural look of wood. You cabinets look to be in good shape, you don't say what your counters are but a buyer can change the counters to something they like if they so choose. Make sure the house is freshly painted in light neutrals, super clean everything and get rid of any clutter. Make sure the outside is inviting, trimmed shrubs, plant flowers, etc. Just make sure everything is bright, clean and looks well maintained....See MoreAnyone have pics of a dark leathered granite with white cabinets?
Comments (16)my black pearl leathered comes with a 10 year sealer. Black Pearl granite should not need any sealer. It's like you are taking one of the big advantages of granites like Black Pearl - that they don't need sealer - and paying for something they not only don't need but has a good chance to mar its appearance. Be careful about sealing a stone like Black Pearl - if sealer is applied to a dense stone that cannot absorb it, it will just sit on top and cause a haze and streaks. Lots of posts from people with black pearl, blue pearl, absolute black, and some other very dense granites complaining that their supposedly carefree stone is hazy and has ghost stains. That's cause they applied sealer and it didn't absorb because those stones cannot absorb sealer. At least those people just used regular sealant that can be removed by acetone, so that they could bring their counters back to an unhazy appearance. I am not sure how "10-year sealer" can be removed. If you have a compulsion to seal, then at least just use regular 511 sealant you can buy at Home Depot, which costs ~$15 and takes 3 minutes to apply, and which can be removed with acetone if a haze develops. Why Sealant and black granites don't mix Sealing Granite Counters...See Morechrisc1950
