With an almost full freezer, and to feed - is it two? (in addition to some space for your goods) ... they're adding more?

Hey, joyful - how about looking in the mirror before you talk too much ... remember that large chest freezer in the baserment and you have to think whether there's room when you're wondering about buying more food, even if it's on sale?

There's been freezing rain last night and part of today - and maybe more tomorrow. Freezing rain isn't friendly to power lines, remember?

Know where you might be able to borrow a portable generator for two or three hours a day till the power comes back?

Joyful, not to worry, we have a generator...and it is just a 13 cubic foot freezer, so we 2 can whittle it down pretty quickly. It is all home made recipes, much of it done in their new Instant Pot. I think we are the 'guinea pigs' for some new recipes. More than ok by me. LOL

Yes, I truly am blessed. I am having a lot of difficulty in the kitchen in recent months. I can dig around in the fridge to make a decent salad and make use of the microwave to heat foods and cook veggies, but the actual doing of the multitasking of cooking a full meal is just about beyond me anymore. So yes, I am doubly blessed. And I am not the only one blessed by these two. They are always involved in helping others any way they can.

that's me these days and I got tired of take out meals. can't find many good ones around me anyway. that's why I bought one of those IPs last Nov on sale.

guess I'll have to make things, divide up into meal parts and freeze for myself tho. I wish I could find a good about 7 cu ft freezer that is frost free. That be plenty big enough for me. I don't have anyone who would defrost and restock for me.

desertsteph, I have a 7 cu. ft. chest freezer (Haier) that almost never needs to be defrosted. It's been going for about 4 years and just only now has a little bit of ice on the sides. It is not a frost free. Probably the next time it gets low, I will defrost it. It's not that big of a deal, just use those big grocery bags and put your freezer stuff in them and turn off the freezer and in just a short time, the ice will fall off. That's all there is to it. Wipe it off and put your food back.

thx for the info on it. do you mean that it hasn't needed defrosted in 4 yrs? holy moly, I read reviews of them needing defrosted every few months! not necessarily a Haier freezer. I'd probably be good with one even 4 cu ft. that's a bit bigger than the one in my fridge. I'll be checking them out again this year. I don't have a lot of space in my utility room (it gets the heat of the AZ sun from May-Oct from about 11 - 7 pm / it gets a bit warm in there). I've even thought about one of the smaller ones - but I'd have to set it up on something so I wouldn't have to bend down to it. I don't know how safe that would be. I have back problems and now a knee problem so I don't like to bend down if I can avoid it.

one of those food saver machines is next on my list, then I'll start looking again at freezers. I've tended to look at the major brand names. Good to hear that Haier might be a good option.
