What would you do - cucumber seedlings keep flowering
Comments (2)My guess is that it's one of two things: Its been too cold for them, as you suggest, and they are stressted Those are male flowers you are pinching off, and if thats the case, then the plant is actally normally Are there l'il cukes behind these flowers, or a stem? If it's a stem, those are the males. The pollinate the female flowers which will show up later on in the plants life...See MoreWhat herbs can go in the ground & what should I keep in container
Comments (4)A couple of points to add to Cyrus' comments. First, Parsley is a biennial (lives for 2 years), not a biannual(occurs twice a year). Second, 'perennial' means that they live for several, or many, years. Usually such plants can be quite slow to grow in their first couple of years, but (as Cyrus says) they can get quite large when fully mature. Third, the annuals will only last one year (or one growing season). In the case of coriander (cilantro), this can mean it has a very short life-span. In a hot climate, it can go from seed to seed in 2-3 weeks. For such plants, growing them in winter might be the only option - and it is generally suggested that you replant every 2-3 weeks ('successive planting') to ensure a continual supply. Most annuals (especially the very-short-lived ones) will self-seed readily. This means that they can become weeds in a short time. Be aware - and either collect seeds as they ripen, or prevent the plant from flowering (remove flowers before they begin to produce seed). Parsley, which goes to seed in its second year, also self-seeds readily - but (as with the seeds of your annuals) those seeds won't always land where you want them!! In short, all your plants will be much happier in the garden than in a pot, doing what comes naturally, and will be much easier to look after. Personally, I'd keep an eye on the oregano - it's not as badly-behaved as mint (which likes to take over), but it requires watching, as it shares that tendency to spread, without being quite so aggressive. A large pot might be the answer if you have limited space....See MoreWould you keep these chairs in my dining room?
Comments (23)I laughed aloud a few times as I read through this thread! Thank you all for that. Gotta love Fridays! Sue, I really like the chairs.. and I'd keep them unless the size doesnt work well. When I think of libraries, I don't think of perfectly matched woods and styles. That's part of the charm and comfort of the library style. LOVE the bar. I was luke warm on it until I saw the blog photo. I think it will work nicely to the left of the settee. I've been trying to find a place for one in my house-- unfortunately, the only place I see one fitting now is in the office. Somehow, that doesn't seem cool.. or wise lol. I just realized with the closer shots that you have the other safavieh rug I was considering when I bought mine. (I didnt see either in person--but I like yours better!)...See MoreWhat wall paint color would go with this unusual living room?
Comments (43)Enjoy it? :) I preferred the couch on the left wall (art could breathe) but as long as there's seating that allows for optimal music appreciation and conversation, what's wrong, really? Perhaps simply accept that this room will evolve with your needs and be an actual "living" room and not a "look-at-me-everything-is-in-a-perfect-spot" room? Is there comfortable seating for everyone, a reachable spot for each person to set down a drink or a book? Navigable paths to seats and anything that needs futzing (e.g. curtains)? Yes? Well, bravo then. You have a functional living room. That's the primary goal room for the room. If you're so inclined, keep tweaking the layout until you're both smiling but figure out why you think it looks odd now. It'll be easier to pinpoint what needs changing. For example, I'd prefer more symmetry on the fireplace wall and would want the art on that wall to be around the same size. I might also consider putting some books and records (?) on that wall (as long as they're reachable). Then again, I wouldn't want every wall covered because then the room feels a bit claustrophobic to me. Really depends on you. Regardless, it's obvious the art, books and music in your eclectic living room are meant to be enjoyed so bravo for that. :)...See More- 5 years ago
