Alternative wall decor ideas for dining area.

Like many other folks on this board, I am looking for ways to change things up around the house. This is the eating area of our vacation condo. It came furnished and I am not up for replacing the table and chairs or the server. We have plans to paint and replace the carpet, but right now I’m looking for suggestions on how to decorate the area above the server (or not.) The clock came with the place, but it seems a bit wimpy looking to me. Any suggestions? TIA!

I'd simply remove it. Don't think it's adding anything particularly pleasing to the wall nor do I think the space above the server "needs" anything.

The tv situation is the problem, I think, not the cabinet. If you’re considering replacing the cabinet, I’d get something that could house the TV or at least incorporate the TV somehow. Maybe along these lines. Not your style but this basic idea.

@Keepthefaith MIGirl I won't be touching the brick/grout :-) but I do appreciate different points of view. What isn't obvious is that the brick that is on the wall is also on the floor in front of the slider and I didn't want light/white grout on the floor. Also, if you look closer at the brick (it's more visible in this pic), you'll see that some of the bricks are etched with city names. I didn't want the grout competing with this detail. Oh, and ignore the bat that's being used as a lock hahahaha

Rather than buy a big flat thing of spotches from Home Depot just to paste color in an area, I'd continue with the theme of San Francisco with similar sized framed photos in b&w, sepia and one colored one would be fine if you find one you particularly like. I would even consider repeating the GG bridge in color, the same shot. Consider making some of the frames gold metal. If too-much-San-Francisco is too much, any interest in going with a bridges theme? Lots of great bridges in the world, large and small, and they would look nice with your long table, the placemats and metals. I think one huge GG bridge would make the place look like a diner, but additinal single prints would look good.

I can totally see 2 chairs and a coffee table in that spot and the idea of a cart is a great one if a coffee bar is a must just remember that a good coffee bar has access to water . Maybe think about converting one cabinet that would allow the seating to be really nice and you can serve the coffe or a glass of wine while you are cooking.

Nice space! I think the trend of ginormous clocks has kinda run its course, and while I rail against those who say the dining room is no place for a mirror, I DO tend to think that the dining room is actually no place for a clock, as it should be one of the home's spaces here one is inclined to linger without thought to time flying. I don't think you really need to do anything above the server, but if it were mine I might test a large-ish painting (no glass to avoid glare) leaning up there. I've done that in my own dining space and like the addition of a piece of art at that height. Then again, I'm sort of an art fanatic, and look for any opportunity to display the pieces I love.

The table and chairs are pub height, which makes the server look a bit stubby on the high wall when there is nothing above it. Maybe I just need to live with it for awhile.
