Bay window dressing ideas. Large middle window.

We are installing new windows this weekend and are are looking to update our window treatments as well. I am having a heck of a time finding the size I need. Our middle picture window is 64” wide. Any ideas would be helpful! Our windows go to the ceiling so installing a curtain rod seems difficult? We are doing inside mount this time also.
Any ideas would be great!!!!

I love bay windows! <3 I have one in my master, and it's my absolute favorite. :-)

Could you open the current treatments you have, stand much farther back, and take another photo for us?

How tall is your ceiling? It would be great to see how the window and the ceiling relate. ;-)

I like roman shades inside mount in bay windows and when asking for help please take a picture from further back so we can actually see the window so that would be without closed blinds

Thanks so much! Valinsv, I had thought about doing Roman shades, and I think that would look great, but...I'm afraid the hardware/mounting wouldn't stand up to the raising and lowering of the shades. I think my fastest/cheapest/most sturdy bet is to hang them flat, like Palimpsest suggested. Les, I would love to add casings, but that would be low, low, low down on the list. After the fence, gutters, other misc. repairs, etc. These particular windows weren't installed properly. They don't open and close like they should, and they're drafty. We're going to caulk around them as best we can until we get to the point where we can replace them. If I had my way, we'd replace the whole bay altogether and turn it into a traditiona, flat window, but I imagine that's cost prohibitive. That room originally was the garage, so I have no idea what, if any insulation is in the walls. Adding insulation is also on the to-do list.

2 pups, I did not spend a lot on my panels and shades. Each shade was less than 50.00 and the panels were also under 50.00. Check out Ikea for good prices on curtain panels. For the shades look at overstock and other online sites. You might find some deals at Home Depot or Lowes. For the rod, check out Ikea, Ross, Home Depot (I think I got a couple there) or other discount stores etc. I bought a couple of dirt cheap flimsy rods and bent them myself. That was how flimsy they were (that I was able to simply bend them myself). However, they worked! You just need to think out of the box and you can make them look fabulous for cheap.

That is stunning. I’ll show her this as so far I’ve been unable to persuade her to have curtains outside the bay. One of the biggest problems is the area at the top of the bay where the rail/ pole goes. The house has previously had a settlement problem and is wonky. This is most evident in this bay. Unfortunately I can’t get a photo that really captures it but at the moment the rail goes along the top of the window frame which mean the gold curtains hang from half way down between the top beam and the picture rail. This looks very odd. In your photo the curtain hangs nicely just below the beam. To do this with my daughter’s would mean the rail, if it goes inside the bay as she wants, would sit half way between the window and the ceiling accentuating the slope where settlement has occurred.

The middle window will be a picture frame window. Currently the trim is down because the windows are all being replaced this weekend. We have Navajo white trim that will be all new. The couch is moving from that location too, just had to move it to store the windows for the time being !
We are thinking inside mount and our home has more of a subtle nautical/ beachy feel.

Oh and it’s -20 below, hence all of the frost on the windows!! Another reason they Need to be replaced!!

roller shades. if you pick color of your trim they disappear when rolled up. go commercial vendor if large windows. This will cost more than a curtain rod; I have 8' w x 16' h and love mine.

There are places online that you can order (successfully!) for blinds. I won't mention names because it sounds spammy, but I recently got the ones that can either go down from the top or up from the bottom and I'm very happy with them.

I think most places will send fabric swatches. Maybe a neutral linen would go well, here?

How about white plantation shutters? They are beachy, will help block out the cold, they can be opened as little or as much as you like, and they are attractive!
