Any recommendations on a wall color to control the yellow/red tone of the carpet? Living, dining, kitchen, and hallway is a light sage green, with the upstairs bathroom being blue/gray and the basement being a dark blue. The plan is to go a darker green in the master bedroom too.

Yes, Jan, of course we all "see" what is on our screens. My point is that in many, many threads on this forum it is discussed that the homeowner must work with what is actually on her walls, in the existing light of that place. My suggestion still stands.

Why don't you try the chenille bedding you currently have just to see how the colour plays with your current wall colour and carpet? Your current set up looks good imo and you'll notice your bedding pics all have light neutral walls as well. I'd be tempted to change the curtains to solid textured ones but that's my preference.

I'll take a new picture with the updated bedding, and in morning light, as well as afternoon. I'm iffy about the curtains too. I was concerning linen, but wanted to wait until I repainted. They also have to be short, as there is a baseboard under them.

Decide on your bedding and curtains then reassess and decide wall colour. I've always had a dickens of a time doing the reverse. I look forward to the new pics. You might be pleasantly surprised. (Or that's just lazy me hoping you don't have to repaint. :))

I like the two inspiration photos you've posted with the iron beds. But if you're going to stay with white bedding, find a quilt or a blanket with some texture in it. (Chenille bedspreads feel stuck in a time warp for me, unless you're trying to maintain an historic look. ) A matelasse blanket might be nice with a chunky blue throw at the foot of the bed. Find a bedskirt with box pleats instead of ruffles to keep the look clean.

As for paint, Benjamin Moore's Feather Gray 2127-60 has a lovely blue undertone that isn't too strong.

Or, try BM's Marilyn's Dress (I adore this color!) 2125-60

If you use the above colors, they won't work with your carpet. That may have to go if this is the direction you want.

tartanmeup I'm actually having a really hard time with the bedding and curtains before wall color. I'm not picky in that room, so there's no bedding color/style I absolutely love. I can't see the finished idea with the beige on beige wall/floor combo. I do like the iron bed and dark wood end table though.

BM Marilyn's Dress IS lovely! I have that strip here and see purply grey undertones to it. You think it would go well with the beige carpet, Sabrina?

Ah, I see. I think I understand now. You're just not jazzed by the beige walls and beige carpet and want a colour with a bit more pizzazz. Where to put it though? Wall or bedding? If I were you, I'd find simple bedding in navy and go with a warm white on the walls. Something that plays well with your beige carpet but reads pretty much white. This way, if you want to change your bedding, pretty much anything will go.

How about BM White Dove (OC-17) or Simply White OC-117?

Your iron bed will contrast nicely against a lighter wall.

Don't know what your budget is but I imagine you're not looking to spend a fortune on a guest room rarely used. Here's some navy bedding at Wayfair. You can add some textured or patterned pillows if going for plain linen curtains.

Color temperature is spectrum within each hue family. The idea that you split the color wheel in half and call one side warm and the other cool is just one theory about psychological color temperature. It's not a fact.

Psychological color temperature is a vision system/psychological judgment. It's not a measured color attribute.

There are warm blues and cool blues, warm reds and cool reds, warm yellows and cool yellows etc.

If you're just looking for a random, warm gray blue your best bet is Benjamin Moore. They have the most and the prettiest range of warm gray blues. Start looking in the historical collection.

What about a teal shade?

Partly because it's my favorite ;) but also because you have both blue and green.

Honestly beige and blues look lovely together and so does teal and beige...

As an aside, adore those chenille bedspreads..but I agree that if you're going to paint, then get the soft goods first...

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm going to pick up some different color samples tonight (as well as different light bulbs. I have a white comforter on my master bed and plenty of throw blankets, so I'll do some mixing and matching this weekend.

celerygirl not sure about you, but I personally prefer the look of the dark blue walls/ light bedding. I think if I pick just the right blue, the carpet wont be so bad. I had originally thought I needed a light/bright color in there, but i'm loving the look of darker walls.

+1 for the darker colors. And your carpet isn't "bad"...it's just a beige carpet.

It would be great if we could all have perfection in our homes, but most of us can't because we're normal people with normal budgets.

That doesn't mean that we have to keep everything the same, or we have to do something we don't want to do. In other words, redecorating doesn't mean all or nothing.

I'm late to this party, but I don't understand choosing a paint color before choosing the bedding. The right bedding could solve the whole problem without repainting. Unless you like painting more than I do, that should be a win for you. And if you get the new bedding and still want to change the walls, you will have the bedding to guide your choice instead of working in a vacuum.

4 works well with the carpet. And it's flexible. Will look great if you want to go all white. Odds are you can easily find bedding to coordinate if you decide on color/pattern. It's also a great color for a bedroom.

This seems like a lot of effort to me for a room you don't really use. What about spending the $$ you would be spending on the paint and just go buy a colorful bedspread/quilt/whatever. The walls colors you are looking at are still very light and could potentially not look much different in the end. My 2 cents worth!

Thank you both. The original bedspread was only for christmas. it gets put away in January. The rest of the year, everything else in the house is blue, green, and beige. The wall color is changing, no matter what. I hate how it looks. I was thinking blue because 85% of the main floor is already green. The bathroom is blue, and the master is planned to be green. Although the room is not used, I walk past it multiple times a day. The view in the pictures is what I see. I'm willing to spend the time and some money to create a room I enjoy looking at. The dog sleeps on that bed, so the bedding won't be very expensive.

I like the idea of roman shades. What about simple woven blinds or even a roller blind? Really depends on the look you're going for and your budget. Do you need strong room darkening when it's a guest room?

What do you think of the paint samples you've got up? I don't think the off-whites would look much different than the current colour and the light blues look a bit too cool to make you happy if your initial idea was a warm blue-grey. The dark ones look black on my screen.

Celerygirl's mockup sold me on the darker blue-green/gray. Do you have a BM store near you? I'd be over there checking out their blue-greys and blue-greens - they have such a wonderful selection as Lori said. (Helps that I have a couple of BM stores nearby. :))

I really like it too, A bit worried though as it did make the carpet look extra yellow. No store nearby, but one I can hit up after work Monday.

I think the blue celerygirl used would look lovely in your room with white bedding and a roman shade on the window.

I have used Wyethe Blue (BM historic deck) extensively for several years. It is saturated enough that it looks great in north facing bedrooms. I think of it as a warm blue. Here is one of my bedrooms that has only northern light for you to see...

I agree, cleo. The Wythe Blue is very close to the Mount Saint Anne. Stratton Blue is as well. Any of these would be beautiful.

Picked up some of the mentioned colors, as well as Hale Navy and Narragansett green. I think I'm in between Mount Saint Anne and Narragansett green (#1 and #3, left to right). Both seem to be more blue in the room than in the mock-ups. Hale Navy is looking almost black. Photo taken at 5am.

Taken about an hour ago. I think the Hale Navy is turning a little bit purple. Still liking Narragansett Green and Mount Saint Anne, but leaning dark. MSA is reminding me too much of our bathroom color, which is right next to this room.

New question, as I'm liking Narragansett Green more and more. We were planing on doing a dark hunter-ish green in the Master bedroom (right next to this room). Would it be too overwhelming to have both bedrooms very dark colors? They are side by side and their doors stay open. The hallway is a lighter sage-grey.

Benjamin Moore Gray Cashmere goes beautifully with the pinky-beige carpet that you have. I recommend it a lot for clients needing to update paint colors but not wanting to replace carpeting ... and that pinky-beige carpeting seems to be everywhere! It's a gorgeous gray-blue color that everyone seems to love.

Why not paint your master br the color you love and start again with this one?
