Is it even worth to date anymore?
Comments (5)You have to walk into the situation with your head up, and be aware of all the land mines. The son's attitude. This kind of behavior will destroy your relationship w your gf or wife later. Children will set you up in a triangle, because deep inside they are carrying so much the wish of having that family together. Best if you can wait until he is 18 and out of the house before talking about marriage. Even then, certain serious discussions w your gf to make sure you both can agree on how to deal with the step son's situation like college funding (who is responsible, what sort of help or entitlement, or expectation of the son ...), whether he can stay with her after 18. ect... The son will challenge and test you. You cannot win by dealing with it directly like he is your own son - he is not. So, don't take his bait and you have to take the high road and let the mom deal with him. If he is heading toward disaster, then just let it be and let the bio parents deal with that. You are just a stranger so don't try to a hero. But if they live with you in your world, then you will have to set some boundaries to protect your sanity like chores, safety concerns ... The problem is also w your gf who has ENABLED him to show such a disrespect toward with foul language. She needs to establish (not you) boundaries with him. A child can voice an opinion or displeasure of the task but she/he cannot be disrespectful with curse words toward the parents. That should have some serious consequences. If you gf cannot deal with that, then I think you should begin to walk away because you don't want to or will not break that parent-child bond. All you will hear is guilt and anger and you will be set up to take the bullets from both sides. Parents have their own right of raising their children the way they want, even if that way is bad. Just let them be and accept that as their fate and destiny. If you marry to her then you should move to a new place for both of you, where the son cannot feel a sense of owner of the place, or turf issues. By the way, teenagers have so many problems as they try to grow up and gain independence. One of the key issues I have noticed is like you mention, entitlement or laziness. Guess what, if you are not careful then he will be back at age 18, then 22 then 25, he thinks he can find a place to live and eat for free. You and your gf have to AGREE that you can help him but he has to step up to the plate as well. At certain points, the parent(s) has to cut the cord. There are so many books on blended family out there. Take a quick stop at the local library and you will lots to read. use search like :blended family, boomerang children, how to cut the cord, step wars ......See Morewhat are we buying?
Comments (11)It's a vicious cycle, and I don't blame the politicians for this one. We want what we want and we want it now, we don't want to wait like our parents did, saving to make that purchase. We want it cheap enough to buy it now, we don't care if it lasts. In order to be able to provide the product at a price we will pay the retailers and manufacturers have to move production to a non-union company that can produce at a cheap price...no matter where that company is based. That often means China, Guatemala, Pakistan, India..... And to be able to do so and import the products cheaply, those companies lobby Congress. It comes down to supply and demand, as long as we want cheap, it has to be this way because our labor force will not accept jobs that are low paying enough for the manufacturer. Just my thoughts, right or wrong....See MoreNothing on TV
Comments (18)Medium will be back on February 2 on NBC. It's a great show. You can watch full episodes of the previous seasons on nbc.com. The Mentalist on CBS (Tuesday nights) is new this year, and it's fantastic. If you haven't seen it, you should. Go to the CBS web site, though, and watch the first episode online. It sets the premise for the entire series. Simon Baker stars: If your cable/satellite system gets the Planet Green channel, you can catch all of the repeats of seasons 1 and 2 of Living with Ed, which is one of our favorite shows. Ed Begley, Jr., is an avid environmentalist, and the shows are funny but very informative on ways to do things that will help our planet. This show is where we first saw recycled glass countertops, which we're going to put in our kitchen....See MoreIs there no work ethic anymore?
Comments (55)I think Anglo explained very well why she felt customer service failed in a couple of instances here. I agree that when the Weds delivery didn't happen, then she should not have had to cancel her other appts, affecting her hairdresser's and dog groomer's schedules. They don't get paid if someone cancels at the last minute, since it's too short notice to book someone else. Someone asked why it would be a loss, since the appt would be rescheduled, wouldn't it just be delayed pay? No, because changing to a future appt fills in a slot where a 2nd customer could be booked. Effectively, Anglo would be getting two appts for the price of one. Perhaps some posters' strong reactions are not to the facts of this situation, or even the rant, but maybe the language used to describe the failures of these two people in their jobs. "Is there no work ethic anymore?" is condemning the whole work force for being incompetent, instead of just relating to this actual situation. If I relied on oxygen to live my life, I know I'd be very frustrated at not receiving the order in a timely matter, as well as having an expensive machine failing within such a short time. But there are millions of people in the work force, most doing their best to do their jobs well....See More- 7 years ago
