Correct me if I am wrong, but I could have sworn this happened last year too. Not at Bragg, but in the housing industry? I know it was in the news here in SC as some of that drywall was found in newer homes. That scares the pants off me- is nothing safe anymore? How can you tell where drywall is made? Does it come with a label??

thanks for the headsup...I have workers coming in to replace drywall that was ruined during a septic backup!

it's been going on in FL for yrs now. drywall from china is stamped so on the back. this is another case of cheaper product coming from china and people unwilling to pay more for better stuff. ~ liz

You said it, Liz. We are our own worst enemy, until we suck it up enough to pay more this is what we are going to get.

I am more than happy to pay more. I try not to have anything made in China in my house...that includes dishes, utensils, etc. Not long ago, there was a sign beside the highway..."Free sheetrock" (that is what drywall is commonly called here.) They were taking it out of a new high school being built. People were swarming to get the stuff...taking it by the trailer load. It was made in China, and the contractor was getting rid of it.

I don't think we are our own worst enemy, Lynn, as it is our politians who shoved NAFTA down our throats and sent many jobs to other countries. So what we get is crappy stuff that doesn't hold up, is inferior, if not downright dangerous. Well, I guess because we have let the politians get away with this...we are our own worst enemies. I say it is now time to get rid of them.

It is not only drywall it is a lot of things from many countries. Candy, fruits and veggies that use contaminated water, toys and even clothes. If we all could insist our politicians stop sending every job overseas, and tax them it might help. Do you know that it is almost impossible to find towels, bedding and dishes made here? I found out I am allergic to fleece products made somewhere else but cannot find out what is in the product.

China scares me...I think they are making things out of their trash and grinning from ear to ear at the dummies buying it.

I've tried not to buy anything foodwise that comes from China. You really have to be careful...many thing say it from some manufacture here in US and some fine print will say something about China

But now I guess we have to watch more than what we eat.

When the Canadian government tried to do that, the Ethyl Corporation sued them for the profit that they would have made by using it ... and won.

It's a vicious cycle, and I don't blame the politicians for this one. We want what we want and we want it now, we don't want to wait like our parents did, saving to make that purchase. We want it cheap enough to buy it now, we don't care if it lasts.

In order to be able to provide the product at a price we will pay the retailers and manufacturers have to move production to a non-union company that can produce at a cheap price...no matter where that company is based. That often means China, Guatemala, Pakistan, India..... And to be able to do so and import the products cheaply, those companies lobby Congress.

It comes down to supply and demand, as long as we want cheap, it has to be this way because our labor force will not accept jobs that are low paying enough for the manufacturer. Just my thoughts, right or wrong.
