Painting kitchen island; need help with colors
Comments (11)I'm glad that Athomewith3 posted her photo because I was going to suggest looking for it!!! I love your granite - it looks like mine! Is it baltic brown? It will go nicely with your cabs and with a painted island. Your island is large - I think it would look lovely in the off white with a bit of glaze and it would look good in a distressed black. You can dress up the outsides of it with molding to give it a paneled look, or with the beadboard as in the above photo. There was another photo not long ago where someone dramatically changed their island with molding. I'm attaching a photo of our black painted island with the same granite as yours. It'll give you an idea of the look. There's a shot from the back and from the front....See MoreMaple cabinets, Baltic Brown granite, help with floor choice??
Comments (8)What color stain do they have on the cabinets? Light, medium, dark? Personally, I think oak floors with it's heavy graining will be too busy. The countertops have a very busy, contrasting pattern that will compete with anything you put on the floors or backsplash. I would suggest looking at maple or birch floors that have very little graining in a different stain. Or look for a middle toned like a beige with brown undertones (not pink undertones) large size porcelain or ceramic tiles. Or lastly look at cork floor tiles, not the floating type. Cork tends to be busy too, but there are patterns that don't have a lot of contrast. Here's laxsupermom's cork floors. Either color on it's own doesn't have much contrast. For backsplash, go with something quiet and classic. A single field tile rather than a pattern or contrasting colors or sheens. Subways in a running bond or herringbone pattern. Or a larger sized tile in a solid color like this....See MoreHelp with a baltic brown granite counter and paint.
Comments (3)Here are a few links of ideas that inspired me: This one is FB Wimborne White http://www.charnwoodkitchens.co.uk/kitchen-styles--options/101/5 Not sure of the cream used in this photo...looks like a glaze...I am just planning on painting for now. http://www.stonetilesales.co.uk/worktops.html http://marble1.com/samples/Baltic%20Brown.jpg http://www.graniteworksurfaces.com/gallery/kitchens I think that gives some good idea of what I am going for... I picked the dimity originally because I was worried that whiter whites might be to stark, but after looking through dozens of decorating forums, seems as if dimity is a better wall paint? Should I use pointing for the cabinet and maybe wimborne white for the trim? Or even james white? I'm so confused...sigh. : ) Thanks again....See MoreKitchen paint color that matches countertop’s orange/brown
Comments (7)orPaint the trim around the door a nice crisp white (use a semi gloss enamel like BM Advance.) Paint the window and trim in the same white. paint your door black or Iron Ore. remove that valance. Replace the cabinet hardware to a matte black or a brushed nickel. try Pale oak on the walls, and two of these others for the trim/door color or for under the window you could do a built in bench against that wall (see pic,,,ignore the L shape. you would just do the single bench against the wall) and find a rectangle table to push up next to the bench. add two chairs for the other side...See MoreCHERYL JOHNSON
