And speaking of being set for the big snow, my local library published this snow map on their Facebook page this afternoon.

Your map shows it missing KY, but our weather report says 2" of rain tomorrow, freezing into ice at night, and 2" of snow on top of it on Sunday.

Kathy - that map is great! Your Library sounds like lots of fun. For those who aren't familiar, the Re-store is a recycling outlet that's affiliated with Habitat for Humanity. They accept donations of furniture, dishes, appliances (which are repaired/refurbished), tools, books, toys - just about everything except clothing, which are then sold and the money goes to HforH. They have some paid staff but mostly it's run by volunteers. One staff member is dedicated to the book section alone. While it isn't perfect, the books are separated by genre and alphabetized by author. Since some titles can be deceiving it pays to look everywhere. Hardcover books are .50 cents and paperbacks are 25 cents. There is also a section of "special" books which are (or could be) of some value. These are priced at two or three dollars. I would estimate it takes me a couple of hours to look at all the shelves - and I'm fast. Turnover is high so there's usually many new (to me) books each time I go. The ones I bought the other day are in perfect shape - some I doubt have ever been opened.

As for the storm, it looks like I'm all set according to Kathy's map. 18-24 inches is predicted but my concern is more the frigid temps (high of zero for Monday) and blustery with wind chill at minus 30. That's scary! Stay safe and warm everyone.

Skibby - Your Re-Store sounds really interesting. I've heard there is a "store behind a store" in my town that is run by Habitat for Humanity, but I've never been there, because I thought it just sold building materials. I need to investigate. (Because there aren't enough places for me to buy books - LOL!)

I hope everyone affected by the snow storm this weekend has the opportunity to stay safe at home with your books. After last weekend's 16 inches of snow in mid-Missouri, the predicted 2-4 inches this weekend doesn't sound so bad.

Carolyn - Let us know how much it snows in Kentucky, though we all know you don't really need to the snow incentive to stay in and read!

I am in the 8 books section and we are looking for close to 20 inches plus of snow. It reminds me of a storm we got a few years back that dumped 34 inches of snow in a 24 hour period. Hoping it's not one of those "surprises".

Feeling lucky in SC to only be getting heavy rains and winds. But it is supposed to go down to 20 here on Monday.

Annpan - I'd say dripping with sweat is worse. I would always choose snow over a heat wave.

Heat is simply too draining. Perhaps it depends on where you were raised and acclimated. Northeast weather is my comfort zone .

Even here in England I think I would take cold over hot. It is possibly to stay/get warm but not so easy to get/stay cool in the Summer. This is from a land with virtually no A/C and winter heating that is often far from adequate. Now if someone could control the damp that seeps into our aging bones they should be given the Nobel Prize for Humanity.

I have to be the odd one here. As I've grown older, I prefer hot to cold. I think my body has changed. Although I have lived in all climates on two continents in my lifetime. I almost relocated to New England 8 years ago. Happily, I was persuaded to move from VA to South Carolina instead.

I'll take cold over hot any day. You can always put on a sweater, there's a limit to what you can remove. Add humidity to heat and I wilt. I'm totally fine with the cold :)

Humidity.....yes, that's a problem. The air begins to feel like it's too wet to breathe. I live in what could be called a river valley and it can get very humid. My friends laugh because I tend to have two different hair styles...one in the dry weather and one in the humid season when I begin to look like a very old version of Orphan Annie !

Oh, yes, Yoyo, Ohio River Valley for me; and it does get very hot and humid in the summer. I just prefer spring and fall to either extreme heat or cold. The high today has been 25 with a low for tonight predicted at 10. That is much too cold for me. We did get ice under a couple of inches of snow last night, so I didn't go to church this morning, watching our service on TV in the La-Z-Boy under a warm throw instead. As someone remarked the last time we had this kind of weather on a Sunday morning, going to worship God is one thing, going to visit Him is something else.

I asked my daughter which she preferred and she opted for heat. She said she can hop into her car with A/C on in hot weather but remembers her Winter in Europe with driving through snow drifts.

Carolyn......Southern Tier of NY on PA border, we got 14 inches of snow and now the temp is 1 degree with wind chills in the minus teens. Thankfully it will pass after a day and we'll be back into the balmy 20 degree temps !

Yoyo, we got up to a balmy 25 today; tomorrow is supposed to be better.

I've never liked either hot or cold. I'd like to cycle between cool and mildly warm. Alas, I don't know of such a climate.

The thing about cold is driving on icy roads. Now that I am retired I could simply stay home on such days. That presumes a well stocked pantry, a working fireplace, and candles or lanterns for light in case the power goes out.

On the other hand, being hot makes me almost as miserable, and cranky as a bear. No fun for anyone (including me).

Silicon Valley where I live now has a decent climate much of the year. However it lacks adequate rainfall. My husband Tom would agree to locate if I insisted, but it would make him deeply unhappy so I don't. Still, I do think about where we would go if he ever changed his mind.

I am grateful that my life is such that I have time to worry about such trivial things.
