Moisture Barrier over Concrete Slab
Comments (15)Well, its been almost 6 months since you posted about your Bamboo - how did it go and how is it holding up??? We installed 1000 feet of this exact product in Nov 2012 - we are currently in the process of pulling it all up,, YUCH... moisture issue???? not really sure what happened,,, installer is being real good and standing behind it all - the house is 1/2 up and the rest is coming out tomorrow.. going with eng Hickory in its place - also laying down a very expense moisture barrier (painted on) Only used Glue that was suppose to have a moisture barrier in it??? floor was 14 years old in Central CA - maybe 10" of rain a year and NO problems in the past... anyway,, moisture test is in progress at this moment - Wish you luck with your Bamboo - wife liked it but it does NOT like any moisture and does NOT like spoons dropped on it,, LOL - still a very pretty floor,,, oh well, live moves on...See Moreinsulating floor over unfinished basement (vapor barrier?)
Comments (4)If you buy faced insulation the kraft backing should go firmly against the conditioned side. On the other hand you could use the unfaced type there like the previous poster said. Either way you will still see the insulation from below. If you don't do this it may, or may not, come back to bite you one day....See MoreVapor barrier over plywood subfloor?
Comments (2)Tough question. I am familiar with what the North Florida environment can do to most anything made of wood, so you are right to be concerned. Moisture passing through a material that then condenses on a barrier is where there could be a problem. Since the crawlspace is unconditioned, then I would assume that you at least have some means for air exchange or venting and that the ground is covered with a moisture barrier. Very interesting question. Have you consulted with the flooring manufacturer directly about this?...See MoreForgot to install Vapor Barrier over Roxul insulation!!!
Comments (2)That the installers rarely see homes with plastic to the interior of the insulation would indicate that your climate and construction does not call for them and that, in fact, interior vapour barriers are counterindicated. Fortunately, Roxul, made of rock wool, is virtually impervious to moisture, so you're not likely to experience a problem with the insulation. See link for an explanation of the use and misuse of vapour barriers.
