Opinions on plantation shutters
Comments (12)You know besides putting on a roof, windows and the ''treatment'' of them seem to be the most expensive thing about owning a house. I'm grateful I didn't have to buy mine, but we did have to have ours painted, as the original paint color looked fine from the inside, but clashed with the color of the outside of our house. (As our siding is stone, something had to be done, and painting the plantation shutters was the path of least resistance. As IF that would ever seem like the easiest thing to do!) So because of that...just as a word of caution, if you do go this route, make sure you like the color looking into your house as well. Hiring a painter to paint all those louvers wasn't inexpensive either! I can easily see how this might have escaped the previous owner's attention, or perhaps she was colorblind. Either way, it helps to pay attention to what's happening on both sides of the window....See MoreSliding glass shower door vs curtain for 96 x 51 bathroom
Comments (5)You can counteract the dark color of walls and floor with a light brightly colored fabric shower curtain. Buy something pretty and install a tie-back on one side so when dry it can be swept back and provide that open look. It will give the bathroom that sense of "finish" for when prospective tenants come to view your rental. The last thing you want to do down the road is try to restore glass doors that haven't been properly maintained....See MoreCurtains for 3 side-by-side sliding glass doors (25 feet wide)
Comments (26)Solar screen on the outside. I'm in coastal NC and we have screens specifically for summer made of this material. We swap out the screens in winter when we welcome the warmth of the sun. Makes a BIG difference. Our window guy explained that if you put it on the outside the window doesn't have a chance to heat up. Any of the big box stores sell it. https://www.google.com/search?q=solar+screens&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb...See MoreVertical Blinds with Curtain, over sliding glass doors
Comments (3)Do you use the doors at all? I would use whatever decorative draperies or other window coverings that would look nice in your room and hang an outdoor shade, remote controlled, to block the sun and/or the view. I got one of these through Costco and it is very effective at blocking the sun/heat, but filtering the light so the room doesn't look too dark. I can see out in the daytime, but if there was anyone who had a view to that window, they could see in at night (it doesn't block that). But that's what I'd use my indoor draperies for. Sun setter blinds Can you do a drapery that pulls all the way to one side on a traverse rod, or that you can pull manually if they are mounted on rings? Like this:...See MoreCookie1930
