still trying to find a lamp for the mbr
Comments (2)I like the lamp shape and it's a shame the shade doesn't work. Have you ever considered going on Ebay and searching ginger jar lamp? I found many to choose from at such reasonable prices. Here's one for instance. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-PAIR-HOLLYWOOD-REGENCY-WHITE-GINGER-JAR-LAMPS_W0QQitemZ180475372675QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2a052ba483...See Morestill trying to figure out lr furniture arrangement
Comments (57)anele - I tried the sofa on the wall with a chair at each end of the sofa, facing each other, but the problem with that arrangement is that it leave the room feeling a little lopsided. Most all the furniture, except the piano and the small cabinet near the 1/2 wall, is on one side of the room. Having the two chairs in the window helps to balance everything better. I'm not sure the table I have between the chairs right now is the best for that space. It is taller than the arms of the chairs and does kind of get in the way of conversation. I'm going to be on the lookout for a better table for that area. I agree that the wall behind the sofa will be a challenge. hill - you are right about the sofa blocking too much of the window and your comment about open, inviting and balanced are exactly what I was hoping to achieve. Here is the room today with the furniture in place and the rug added back in. It is not the right size or can I get away with it anyway? It is centered on the window and the sofa. See how the chairs are on the rug, but the sofa isn't? Another view (ignore the desk and audio equipment on the left). I I know I need to add a table to the left of the sofa. Most likely the table that was here originally (now sitting between the chairs) will come back to this location. Now I need to work on placing lamps, pillows and other accessories. Thank you to everyone who helped me get to this point....See MoreStill trying to find Wall Color
Comments (10)Thanks Everyone....think I have found the color...had to choose something that would go in both kitchen and den... Now to get the primer on...ceiling painted and then the walls in both rooms. We are Hoping to get cabinets in by middle or later part of the week....then the granite fella comes to do the template...Somewhere in here the microwave vent is put thru the roof and the ORM put up. Then the floating floors installed hopefully end of week or first of next..depending on when cabinets go in.... Following week...Light fixtures go up..rest of electrical switches, plugs, dimmers etc..... Plus hoping to get under cabinet lights and corner glass cabinets lights in....But first I have to decide What I am going to be able to do concerning those...and what and where to purchase.? I am still clueless and on a strict budget with these. Then the Crown molding will have to be painted and put up in the Den and Hardwood floors installed, also hoping that granite guy gets back either the end of that week or first of next to install granite...I will be so glad when that part of this remodel is over....started out thinking I was going to get one of the newer Formica counter tops and was so pleased when I discovered I was able to fit the Granite into the Budget!! By the way When does the sink install fit into all of this? The the faucets /filtered water faucet, filter, and soap dispenser installed. Also hoping the guy that is doing most of the work along with installing the cabinets can do a little tweaking on one or two of them. I would really like to have the over the Ref cabinet back panel taken out and made to go back to the wall by adding more wood to the base and sides....this will give me so much more room than the shallow cabinet that comes with stock cabinets. OK...I am sure I have missed numerous things that will have to be done...but this schedule is what I am hoping will happen....Do I really think it will?.....No ...But still hoping. I have several other things that I plan to do...like painting the woodwork in not only the kitchen and den but also a hall into the utility room as well as the walls in both. Also once the kitchen and den is back in order which I am sure will take another couple of weeks ...because I have so much that I want to discard and lots of things I boxed up that will have to be gone thru...time consuming for sure. Then will have to paint the glassed in porch/ front entry that will look into the kitchen thru the open window and goes directly into the den.....along with several other things that will be needed to be done out there. So looks like I have a long fall and winter ahead of me...just hoping to get the most of it done before the Holidays...But by the looks of everything in the stores...Christmas is right around the corner!...See MoreStill Trying to Finalize Layout- More options
Comments (6)This is what we're suggesting: Your range is no longer in the main aisle and the prep sink is close to it, unlike it is in your plan. You'd be crossing that main aisle multiple times while prepping to go from fridge to prep sink to range. Not efficient at all. The clean-up sink and DW are close to the table and the range, although a bit beyond the imaginary boundary rosie suggested. I moved the trash to the opposite end of the island so that it's (somewhat) close to the clean-up sink as well as near the prep sink. If you add another trash pull-out near your clean-up sink, you could swap prep sink and trash on the island. I moved the MW next to the fridge (many things come out of the fridge and go into the MW) and near the range to make it handy for meal prep. I removed the remaining smallish upper cabinet to the left of the range for aesthetic reasons. I think this will make it less noticeable that the range isn't centered on that wall between window and entryway, although it is MOL centered in the room. To dress up the view from the front door, opt for glass fronted cabs around or at least to the left of the clean-up sink. You could also add a tile medallion or some other focal point above the sink. Use the counter to the left of the clean-up sink as a beverage center, convenient to the table, island seating and, when you entertain, to the rest of the house. I can't read the dimensions in this plan but I encourage you to have 42" between range and island. It looks like you moved your table towards the opening more than you had in earlier plans so fingers crossed that you have enough wiggle room to keep the range area from being cramped. Speaking of table, I realize this plan may not be too scale but visually your table looks like it's almost in the foyer. I suspect you're trying to gain enough room to have both island and table seating. Is island seating a priority? If not, you can go with 44" (or a few inches less) between table and island so that the table and those sitting on the far side of it seem more a part of the room and not angling for a quick get away. ;-)...See MoreSam Gorson
