Hosta Worst of 2018
Comments (35)I miss my Little Treasure and I REALLY miss Sparkler. Sparkler was just so adorable. I notice that no one offers it for sale any more, so I know it wasn't me--it must have been a dud for lots of folks. This year, after a single leaf came up last year, High Society finally called it quits I guess and gave up the ghost. No trace of it. And, I only got 1 season of Dinky Donna and my 2nd Silver Threads & Golden Needles. Hard to think that an unglazed terracotta long skinny rectangular planter had insufficient drainage holes on the bottom. They didn't seem small to me. I am consoled in my new-from-last-year Faithful Heart is really beautiful this year, as is its companion from the shipment last year, Dinner Mint. I spent about 3 hours today and 3 hours yesterday potting up hostas and heuchies to make them portable for the move out of NYC I hope to make. I think I am keeping Opulent Grow Pots in business, ordered so many of them. I hope the "landscape workers" do not spray weedkiller right adjacent to my garden this year, as most everybody is looking so beautiful. I wrote a very nasty email to the co-op manager about their stupidity, trampling stuff, losing stuff, killing stuff and he forwarded it to the landscape company....See MoreHosta Mini 2018 ..
Comments (62)It's mostly my potted hostas that are really coming along! Although I looked out the kitchen window this morning and montana Aureomarginata (out in the garden) is clearly visible even from a distance. So, even though it's been there two years it's still not a very large plant, and I think if we get a surprise freeze I'll be able to invert a pot over it for protection. I do have daylilies up several inches, and daisies, and the peonies and clematis are coming right along. Shadow - "stretch and stay hydrated"! Indeed! LOL! I'll be doing that tomorrow... as well as taking my Tylenol "before, during and after" I work on spreading this:...See MoreHosta Companions 2018
Comments (52)I love all of the pictures. Lots of inspiration. My favorite combination with hostas is with my baptisia. I tucked the hosta (this one is a no id, I inherited him when we bought this house) in close, and the baptisia sort of creates a canopy over the hosta. The only catch is that around midsummer, I have to tie up/stake my baptisia so that it doesn't collapse on the hosta....See MoreHosta Progression 2018
Comments (20)Thank you peren :-) Had to to a lot of reading for my succulent hobby during winter but it is hosta time now...first few pips are showing and I hope that this wet and grey winter will finally come to an end. There was one new hosta I was extremely fond of last year, Blue Skin from Danny van Eechaute, it is already available at In the Country Garden&Gifts :-) March 2018 April 2018 End of April 2018 May 2018 June 2018 October 2018...See MoreKarin Black Cat
