The Watkinses have extensively renovated the interior.
“We love the extensive amount of glass throughout the house that gives us the feeling of living in a treehouse,” Shawn says.

Over the past three years, the homeowners refinished the original wood floors, added interior walnut doors and remodeled a master suite.

Homeowner: Cheryl Huckabay
This large new build is filled with rustic charm, great art and contemporary design. Cheryl Huckabay calls the style of her house, with its combination of reused materials from the original home and modern elements, “Hill Country modern.”
Huckabay, an advertising executive, is originally from Austin, Texas, and a former collegiate swimmer. She took her love for design and created her dream home with the help of architect Mark Martinek of Modern Construction Services. “I always wanted a lap pool to continue swimming and bring a little slice of Austin to Dallas,” Huckabay says.

The two-story home with a U-shaped layout is centered around a grand outdoor lap pool and features natural woods and stone elements throughout. “The natural wood in the living room wall, dining room wall and island were salvaged from the original house on the lot that was deconstructed,” Huckabay says.
“I dreamed up the home three years before it was built,” she says. The vision of her home was then brought to life over a three-year construction period. The interior is a reflection of her passions and travels.
The painting in the master bath is a family treasure purchased by Huckabay’s grandparents in the Cinque Terre region of Italy.

Homeowners: Charles Cascio and Graham McCall
The first home designed and built by Dallas’ most famous architect, E.G. Hamilton, has impressive outdoor views and an equally impressive use of space. Natural light floods the interior, while midcentury furnishings complement the architecture. “In the living room, E.G. would meet with Stanley Marcus and Ray Nasher to drink martinis and hash out the master plan for Dallas, including NorthPark Center,” says homeowner Graham McCall.
McCall and Charles Cascio purchased the home in 2016 and immediately began a renovation project. They restored the original floor plan, updated the electrical system and modernized the kitchen.

In the dining room, Eames side chairs surround a circular Saarinen table. Burger Boy by artist Joe McCall, the homeowner’s father, decorates the wall.
McCall notes that “all of E.G.’s designs were meant to bring the outdoors inside,” and he and Cascio are delighted by the use of light and glass. In one of the large bedrooms, the space was reconstructed by the original owners to include a large and still-growing pecan tree.
Homeowners: Jalie and Shawn Watkins of Watkins Remodeling
This 1955 midcentury modern home designed by architect Niles Resch is set on a hillside and features vibrant art, large windows, a round backyard pool and a guesthouse.
The size of Jalie and Shawn Watkins’ home is deceiving when seen from the front. Nestled in the rear of the lot is a backyard made for entertaining, with the large pool, an outdoor kitchen and a 850-square-foot guesthouse. “The half-acre lot allows for great entertaining of large parties, which we often do,” Shawn says.
