painting maple cabinets - what color for off white?
Comments (2)^^^ What November said. I have BM White Dove cabinets, and they are exactly that: not too white, but not cream. More of a "warm white". :)...See MorePaint Scenario help, please!
Comments (5)Thank you so much for your opinions! I already knew that the white wouldn't work, but I just wanted someone to tell me to quit dreaming. *cry* My parent's home is actually pretty modern with high ceilings and lots of open angles, so that is probably why it looks good in their home. Darn that Cote! I think that is how I started liking white again. It's so prevalent now. I actually really like blues and greys. Do you think I should focus more on greys or tans with the floors? I saw the greige and thought that might work. I did stalk EK for a while, she gave me the mushroom color. I was hoping a color called powdered pebbles would work better. It's more of a grey/taupe color. It's beautiful! The only problem with EK is that I don't like the dulux paint. :( My son's room is painted in azure and it looks really pretty. When the sun hits it just right, it looks like a rainbow on the walls. Did anyone have any input on the painting of the cabs? Should I paint them white or go with another color. I don't want it to seem closed in, but thought it would be better for our family of four (three year old and a six month old). Would something dark on the bottom and light on top be something better? Thanks again for your opinions! My husband has a few weeks off at xmas and that is why I'm looking at paint. Free labor! :) Kim...See MorePainting natural wood cabinets....need opinions, I know you have them.
Comments (28)I love your inspiration photo too, but with some caveats for your situation: The long view: "This kitchen is at one end of an open concept layout, so there is wood for as far as the eye can see." In picking a color to paint your cabinets -- even one as delicious as your inspiration photo -- you should think in terms of that color having a large effect on the remainder of the space. Light: Your photo is of your kitchen at night and minimally lit. For major changes, you need to think in terms of how it will look in daylight and/or with the full array of artificial light you would have on when using the kitchen. Option for adding color: The "painted uppers only" photo that richfield95 posted blows me away, but I am not sure how it would work with less imposing uppers. You might think in terms of painting with more than one color, depending of the opportunities you find in your kitchen. E.g., from a kitchen that sort of evolved in process, after and before. Had the turquoise turned out to be too overbearing, it could have been changed....See MoreWhite Kitchen Backsplash Recommendations
Comments (18)I agree with the others to leave the cabinets. I'm afraid that painting them will cheapen the look and take away the uniqueness of your space. A simple white-ish tile in a matte finish would really update your backsplash. And consider tiling all the way to the ceiling, above your cabinets. If you can't replace the floors right now, think about adding a vintage rug in there. What is the style of the rest of your house? Here are some tiles we're looking at for our kitchen remodel to give you a starting point. They're from here and here. Can you get samples of tiles to hold up in your room and see how they look with the countertops and cabinets?...See Morelisa
