Need help finding BR20/RS20 LED bulb for master closet/changing room
Comments (1)You are going to want to go with 3000K LED. The absolute best are the Sylvania Ultra HD Professional Series, really makes colors appear vibrant (95CRI), and the light has noticeably better color tint, but they are expensive. It is possible to find 3200K LED, but they are much harder to find (and options likely to be much more limited). 3200K would probably be the optimal color temperature for your situation, it's a vibrant bright white, but still warm enough to be within the range of feeling residential. I am going to tell you one thing though, and you can tell your wife I told you this: There is no LED product that feels exactly like the old-style GE Reveal bulbs. They do sell neodymium glass though, so maybe you could find some way of putting this filter over the LED bulbs. I have actually tried this, and surprisingly it does make the LED light feel a little more 'natural'. (and before anyone brings the subject up, yes, I am aware that the now discontinued old version of the Cree TW bulb used neodymium glass, but reviews said the light still did not feel like incandescent Reveal, despite the increase in CRI )...See MoreMy Cape style home and a life changing discovery.
Comments (21)Laughable, you are so right. Little by little my own aging parents are starting to clear out the attic with help. Lots of difficult decisions to throw or donate meaningful things that are no longer used. Growing up, my mother saved everything and was never embarrassed (like I was) by the amount of clutter on her counters. As a result, I am the opposite and the minute a kid grows out of something or we haven't used something for some time, out it goes. I'm sure there will be some regrets down the road when I don't have that thing to remember a milestone by, but but I feel that it's either now or 30 years from now that I make the decision to let it go so it may as well be now and save the space. I'm going to at least get an estimate to drywall and add carpentry and access doors to do something similar to what your father had. The character it adds is so charming, IMO. Awesome pic you shared....See Moresliding doors on laundry closet - do I ask contractor to change? VOTE!
Comments (15)We had to re-do our laundry closet configuration last year to be able to get side by side machines into the same space. We used to have stacked front loader with dryer on top. Ours is located in the master bathroom. We had bi-fold doors prior which made for nice ease of use and clean lines/look when closed. We tended to keep the bi-folds open a fair bit however to allow more air flow to the washer to prevent mold or mildew. It made for an unkept look with the doors open in our opinion, but was better than mildew. Anyhow, in an effort to keep the space workable if and when repair time comes, we choose not to do bi-folds because the bi-folds would have to be removed and rehung for machine or plumbing servicing. We have friends who could not get their bi-folds to ever hang properly after being taken down and we thought why not hang drapes or curtains instead of sliding doors or bi-folds in our situation? We did put up a nice rod and have drapes instead of doors until we come up with a better idea. I like the look of closed doors better, but really, the air flow to the washer is great in our case now when I have the drapes closed. It was a give and take in our case. I hope you come up with a good plan for your laundry closet. Best of luck....See MoreCustom closets: what do you love in yours or what would you change?
Comments (18)It sounds like you made really good choices. I was in your position a year ago and we moved into our house 8 months ago. We also used California Closets and I was very happy with the experiences. Having your shoe shelves be non-angled is very practical in case you want to use that space for storing other things in the future (which you couldn't do easily with slanted shelves). I also upgraded to the soft-close dovetail drawers, which I love. The only thing I sort of regret is letting my designer talk me into a few frosted glass door fronts. She wanted it to feel more open and for me to be able to "display" beautiful handbags, etc. but the reality is that it's a closet and not a display space and I would rather have had totally concealed storage. I am happy with the accessories I chose: a jewelry drawer, safe, tilt-out hampers, ironing board that tucks into a drawer, full length mirror, pull-out rod and belt rod. For my kids' small walk-in closets, we got full-length mirrors (that fold away) and pull-out hampers. For my youngest daughter's (10 years old) closet, I did not pay close enough attention to the height of the hanging sections. One section is too high for her to reach so I ordered extra shelves to put in that area until she gets taller. Same thing for the drawer sections. She can reach the top 2 drawers to open them but she isn't tall enough to see what is in them. I also wish we would have been able to have pocket doors for the smaller walk-in closets but our room design did not allow for this. For the benefit of other readers looking at closet options, yes, CC is pricey but they really do handle EVERYTHING from the design to the installation and the clean-up. I wanted/needed help to design our spaces to maximize storage space and could not do that without the help of the designer. I did look at The Container Store's custom system (not elfa) but when I went to the store to open drawers, see the finishes, etc. to get a sense for the quality, they felt flimsy compared to CC. I did notice, however, that they have recently revised their custom closet offerings so maybe they have improved....See Moreartistsharonva
