I would center the sofa on the windows, then center the TV opposite it. Is that a chair or love seat only partially shown in the pictures? Definitely a chair and floor lamp & possibly an ottoman where the tree is. I would get a chair that is multi-color upholstery and choose the accent color from it. Everything you have now is neutral so any color you like would work. Some art for over the FP and you're on your way

Start with large framed art for the fireplace, then choose a new upholstered chair. Then pick four pillows. When you are ready, add end tables and lamps. No coffee table with reclining sofas.

Try some end tables in a gold finish with hefty construction that will coordinate well with the hefty recliner sofas. Light and airy end tables (sold in many places) will look silly; more substantial construction would be much better.

Taylor, you've made a very good start. Congratulations on choosing a TV stand that's wide enough for your TV. We can certainly work some gold into the room.

No to a mirror over the mantel. It won't reflect anything worth seeing twice, so choose art instead.

HI! What a nice size room. Are you planning on keeping the sofa and loveseat or new furniture throughout? If you are keeping the seating, I would suggest bringing in a rug that has some pattern to it. This is break up the grey. Something light would be nice if that is practical for your home. Then layer it with a metal/glass or metal/natural stone coffee table. The key here is to start using different textures. You currently have a solid, wood console for your tv, and a painted mantle and light wood floors. So now you should be looking for glass, metal, natural stones, and a touch of black ( it's the eyeliner of the room and finishes everything off.) Then you should incorporate lighting and plants. Try to stay away from sets of tables and find things that coordinate instead of match. A mirror above the fireplace would look very nice. I would recommend a round mirror to break up the straight lines. Maybe a thin black frame. :) Hope this helps. I know it can be overwhelming. You can do this!

So I'm not a fan of how you have that room configured. I would put the TV over the fireplace or at least on the fireplace wall so that you have ONE focal point. Then the couch needs to be in the center of the room facing that focal point wall. Your room is not big enough to have those two big bulky pieces of furniture, so you need to ditch the love seat. Instead you need two accent chairs in a subtle pattern fabric (to break up all of that dark solid gray in the couch). Then you need a coffee table in front of the couch. Start with that.

@taylor Yes! that rug will work nicely. Now start bringing in warm tones through the side tables and coffee table and I agree with @hansen that a chair in the corner would be nice. Maybe with a side table and floor lamp for height.

I chose a piece of art and used that to inform your color palette. Warm colors seem to work better here than cool blues and greens.

Pull the loveseat up onto the rug just a bit. (P.S. I don't think you need to change your rug.)

With the blue rug:

search for minimalism interior design. Its new trend. To me, the sofa color is too dark compare to the wall. And try to match same color. Black and Brown are not go well usually but if you go with just one color, it would be better. Your floor and TV stand are brown but fire place and sofa, TV, carpet are black, and wall is white. FWIW, I like your original rug with warm bright colors better than the blue rug you showed.

Choose a chair (with or without nailheads) that is 1) the right size and color, 2) graceful and well-proportioned, and most important 3) comfortable. To that end, I suggest you go locally and butt test some chairs before you buy.

I think Groveraxles suggestion is great. While the photos of chairs you posted look nice (and I get it the aim is for an “accent chair”, if I visited your living room, it’s the last chair I’d choose to sit in! The others look way more comfy.
