I think you need to stick with darker or cooler colors. Beige and green don't go with light gray too well. I'd try a blue gray color with the white trim, or I think maybe even paint the house white and have dark gray trim with black shutters. How old is your roof? If it needs to be replaced soon, maybe you can just hold off and repaint once you get a new roof. Just remember to not get a roof in a trendy color - go with a dark brown or a very dark gray - goes with everything.

I would also spray paint the star a rusty red so it will show more. It really doesn't stand out on the brick in it's current color which looks more copper in the picture. (the copper is pretty but you need red there) I would also consider opening the bed up in front of the stairs to add flowers as well. The house is beautiful, but the landscape is what's lacking. I would actually post a thread in the landscape forum to get some ideas of how you can build the landscape up a little. Put a plan together and just do a little bit every season..

You have a nice home. I like the new roof. Paint your garage door the same color as the siding so it blends. Don't paint it white. Do you have shutters next to your front door? If so, remove them they don't belong there. Or, are there sidelights next to the front door? It is hard to tell from this pic. Replace your front door with a door that doesn't have that distinctive Victorian glass oval in the door. If you can't do it right away, keep it on your list for the near future when you are able to replace the door. Go with a door with no windows, something like the door below (but a different color). The first one is more contemporary, the second more colonial. Black doors recede a bit. A color will accent the front door. The trick is finding one that works well with your brick. It is possible and done all the time :) JMO

Thanks for all the replies. I've got to convince the boss (wife) that removing some or all of our shutters is a good thing. They've been on the house since 2001 when bought the place. And it sounds like we need to reconsider the shingle color as well, it's the one she feel in love with. We've got a 3 - 4 weeks before the new roof gets installed but the price and warranty were right so a little bit of time to reconsider. Here are our options.
