Sending Christmas Cards

I'm one of the old fashioned ones; I send Christmas cards to my relatives and friends. This was something that my family did when I was a boy and I have never stopped. Back then, it was an important part of staying in contact. It was an exercise in cursive writing. Penmanship was held in higher regard than today. Tidbits of information inserted in those cards updated others about their kin.

One card that I sent this year to my cousin bore an unexpected message. It was returned to me, unopened with a label that read, deceased. I checked on-line and found his obituary. He had passed away last June and I was not aware of it. He was my last male cousin from that uncle. My cousins are passing on, and it is a lonely feeling to be one of the last.

Yes, Christmas cards do serve purposes other than a hello. My list for next year will be one shorter.
