Bulbs - in bloom last half of May?
Comments (1)Congrats on getting married NewbieBulbs! Late blooming tulips should be in bloom towards the end of May, in my experience Viridifloras tend to be around the longest (plus their colours are more intense towards the end of their stay). Alliums are another that are around through May-June, there are some fantastic varieties, the giant purple rounds (purple sensation, gigantium, globemaster) and their white counterparts would certainly stand out. Also allium bulgaricum would (to me) be perfect at a wedding, as they look like little bells, I've mixed those in with christophii in the garden. Hope this helps. :)...See MoreTook a cutting last May and want to id the plant
Comments (13)Large container. I had one for years in a bed under the eaves of my house, and it got lots of rain every time we had a rain, and that can be quite a lot in my area. 60"+ per year easily. It was very happy. It was L. frutescens 'silverado'. However, I'm going to get another one soon, so thanks Saltcedar, for posting that link. Lynn's Legacy may be a good one, and I know where to find it......See MoreKwanzan cherry planted last May - is it dead now?
Comments (2)recent transplants do weird things ... including flower disruption .... you dont mention size .. but i will presume it is probably 5 to 8 feet tall ... if they live.. they will not be re-established for 2 to 3 years ... so.. since they do weird things... all you can do.. is wait and see ... we dont really care what established trees in the 'hood' are doing ... also.. micro-climates can add to the mystery ... give them a month or so ... and if they fail to live up to your expectation... talk to your seller ... they should carry a warranty ... your trees.. are.. most likely severely stressed .. fertilizing them will not help ... and i wonder if these large transplants were properly watered all last summer ... and i wonder if they were planted at the proper depth ... and i wonder if my MI winter will ever end ... ken ps: what kind of bulbs were you expecting??? .... do you mean buds???...See MoreMy community lost a lovely heritage home to fire last night
Comments (13)Yes, the loss of heritage property is terrible, because it contributes to the loss of a sense of place and history that connects people to their communities in a way that no uninspired builder special can ever do. It also reduces the examples of fine craftsmanship that built those houses. I live in an historic area, and fortunately for the cause of preservation, the South was impoverished after the Civil War, and didn't really begin to recover until air conditioning. So development did less damage here than in some other parts of the country. But like everywhere else, too much of our suburban growth seems to have given us what my DH and I call the Unites States of Generica. You could be anywhere, and the lack of meaning and grace disconnects people from any sense of common purpose. So Sochi, I understand very well how much the loss hurts your soul. I hope they have whacking good insurance, and help from whatever the local heritage society and government can supply, and the stomach to restore it....See Moreuncle molewacker z9b Danville CA (E.SF Bay)
