Winding down - or up
Comments (1)Hi Julie, how strange you couldn't post this to the other thread???!!!! Anyway, love that you've got your geraniums going. I'm finding them pretty easy to overwinter. I actually dug a few of mine out and threw them in a pile planning on getting to them to re-pot then forgot them for four weeks. Well I found the pile in the stuff in the garage and just for jollies I chopped them all back to about five inches or so from the soil line, repotted them and voila, they are ALL doing well and leafing out. Hardy plants! I cleaned bathrooms and changed the sheets on the bed as well as washed the kitty bedding today. Not a lot to show for the day but I also spent some time in my blind. Comments (12)Sure thing, the drier the better and if its a d.i.y. thing, less leaves leaves you to see what you're doing better. Kimm, what's the matter about cutting a tree down yourself if you have whatwithall and wherewithall to get it done. Paying, perhaps exhorbitant amounts of money just to put a chainsaw to a piece of wood seems, to me, one way to put a large amount of money in someone else's pocket instead of leaving it where it is. If a person isn't afraid to use a chainsaw up in the tree---that's the big thing--that's the thing that scares people off--handling a chainsaw...along with other array of saws, ropes and ladder, up a platform whose footing isn't always a firm one....See MorePlease help me decide if I should take down this tree...
Comments (7)Based on the assumption the lane is 8 to 10 feet wide the tree looks like it is about 20 to 30 feet from the power lines. Base on the type of tree, I do not see any need to remove it. As for the low branches, unless you are willing to hire someone with climbers or a cherry picker. You can remove the lower dead branches with a hammer and a long rope. Tie the hammer to the end of the rope, and arrange the rope so it can feed freely. The throw the hammer over the dead branch, feed the rope until the hammer reaches the ground that pull the branch down by pulling both ends of the rope. MAKE SURE YOU STAY CLEAR AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE IN THE AREA. If you can not pull the limb down it tells you something about the general state of the tree. I have used this method for years to keep my trees clean of dead wood....See MoreAn Awful Tree is Blocking the View
Comments (35)"Now that I've slept on the thought though, I think that it would be best to cut down the tree in broad daylight. This way it doesn't come across like I have something to hide." ~SpruceLee You may get a citation for destruction of private property if you do such, in broad daylight or under cover of darkness. "Maybe I should go down there one last time and give him one last stern talking to about how rude he is before I do anything tonight." ~SpruceLee How rude *he* is? You are threatening his property, if you gave him 'a stern talking to' the first time, as your posts suggests, it's no wonder he's not cooperative. Granted that looks like an ugly tree but you're not even a landowner there, you just rent, you're in zero position to dictate what the land owner keeps on his property. Are you one of those kids who Mom and Dad never said 'no' to? Because you're coming across as a self-entitled brat, imo....See More- 5 years ago
