To answer accurately, need to know the measurements ceiling to floor and ceiling to top of window molding.

As for back, you either need lined panels or put up blinds or shades. Sheers won’t hide anything.

No, the 84" won't be long enough. They'd need to be at least 88". They shouldn't be more than 1/2" off the floor, preferably touching the floor. Anything shorter looks bad. A cornice or valance won't help any.

Simple; have a seamstress add additional panel to bottom of curtains to add length to panels...it can be a solid color found in the curtains, ie black, white etc; or a check pattern of small black and white, or buy one more panel and add the length and cover seam with tape to cover seam, or ignore seam as your pattern is very busy.....and I see why you love them, they are gorgeous.

Also there are many blogs about how to lengthen curtain panels for a custom look.

These have a band on bottom for design effect, but basically it is a band on the bottom of the panel.

I've the same problem-and in two rooms curtains look like they should be higher up( because I've no energy to deal with it, even minimal), but in the third, they look like they should look -and all curtains are 84 inch, and all ceiligs are 8 feet (or are they? lol). The shape of window in that room is different-the frame I mean. But the fact stays-the curtains there look better and like they should. So try it first..ask someone to hold it and look at it from a bit afar..there is a chance it'll work as is, though slight one

another, easy(for everyone normal, which is currently not me) way to deal with it-is to sew on curtain rings. You add several inces just by that-and curtains look more custom too. And easier to move them-in case it's a consideration.

These are nice curtains. And you'd have to shorten them a tad if they were 96'..so work either way.

It's a bit irritating they don't have standard size of 90' for example which would fit all these standard ceilings much nicer

But as I said try first. Also, the more the curtain blend with a wall color(which might not be your case)-the less your small sins are seen

You don't want those at any length, hon. There are no "standard" windows, or ceiling heights, or placements of windows within any wall.

Return them, or cut them up for pillows since you love the fabric. On your way to the store for something that actually fits the windows? Make sure you HAVE MEASURED.

Do not spend ONE THIN DIME tarting these up to work. Because they won't and will look as you tarted up a too short curtain which has little longevity in a room anyway. : ) and will probably take over the room.

Other idea? Save them for a fun bedroom.

Even hanging them on rings will not help. The top of the panels should be above the top of the window. If the top of the window is at 86", then 84" is just not long enough.

And honestly, unless you really know what you're doing to lengthen them yourself, they probably won't come out too nice.

It's important to know what is going on in the rest of the room because THIS IS A LOT OF PATTERN. Cute but not classic. The kind of pattern that you use for a year and then replace.

What is the ultimate appearance for this room? Are you planning to use gray or blue in the rest of the room because those are really your only choices.

These same drapery panels in this other color way are a bit easier to work with in a room.

There are lots of other patterned panels out that that might be better selections.

I can see why you like them, they're bright and crisp. Unfortunately, after a few months the novelty would wear off.

I think they look nice as they are. Since they are ready-mades, I'm assuming they didn't cost the sun and the moon.

If you really want to hang them higher, buy one more panel. Back in the 1970's/80's, there was a dress designer, Albert Nippon. Everyone loved his clothes if they could afford them! One of his design signatures was that he had a row of 1" pleats about 10-12" above the hem. They were horizontal pleats.

My mother gave me some silk gauze curtains she had had custom made for our DR in our St Louis home. There was a radiator underneath, so they were too short for my LA house windows. BUT...there were more panels than I needed, so I simply sewed them on the bottom, hiding the seam in the first pleat and making about 4-5 pleats. It was a pretty detail and it solved my length problem. You can easily do the same with these curtains if you love them.

The world won't end if the panels are two inches off the floor. Honest.

No, no, no!!! The above looks awful - like you screwed up the curtains. One can sometimes do this with solid material, but not with a print like this. Try the pleats - they will work, will add a pretty detail and will be unnoticeable from a distance.

I hope you can provide a step by step for that. It takes a bit of skill and a bit of planning to accomplish that. It’s not as easy as cut and paste.

If you like them, keep them and let them be as they are at 84" above the floor. Unless you are capable of doing some sewing to make changes, I would not advise that you try to put them all the way to the ceiling. And, it is probably not cost effective to pay someone to do this for you.

If you still do want to have them to the ceiling, your options are to either create a valance at the top to disguise the fact that they are short of the length, or to add a decorative panel at the bottom to lengthen them. Both solutions require sewing and neither is ideal.

If you really want curtains that long, you need to buy, or sew, curtains that are that long!

Your window is quite small and high up on the wall and I am guessing that you are trying to make it look more ferocious than it really is by puffing it up.

Look at something like cellular shades, or blinds, or shutters, or even sheers to cover the window and then add either a functioning curtain or decorative side panels.

A curtain that is hung on a rod with rings will be functioning. The curtains that you have chosen appear to have what is, essentially, a rod pocket. It may be designed to create pleats, but it is still a rod pocket and is a stationary curtain. Unless you run your rod well out to each side of your window, this curtain will be obscuring most of the window space. This curtain requires a certain amount of space on the rod for stacking. A rod and ring assembly requires much less stacking space.

I have incorporated rod and rings on every curtain in my house and I find that I can use one width of deco fabric and create a nice panel that covers my 32" wide windows suitably. Of course, I line them. I have always sewn my own. In this case it is so easy that anyone with sewing skills can create a nice lined panel with just a little research into the technique. You want to have at least a one inch side hem and, preferably a double turned four inch hem at the bottom. Lined curtains filter the light so much nicer and they hang so much nicer.

I am one who desires for something to have both function and beauty and my suggestion would be to buy curtains that are long enough for the length that you want and to mount them with rings so that they can be both beautiful and functional and be drawn away from the window to hang beautifully at the sides when not in use. I never thought much of window dressing just as decorative. That is like those fake outside "shutters" that get put on so many exteriors. Why?

Overall, though, your windows are not that generous and the room appears to be a bit dark. I am assuming that this may be the only window in the room.

Perhaps you should seriously consider some treatment that does not obscure the open space of your window and is abbreviated in design and that has a nice amount of function.

My daughter put up white shutters in her windows and I love the fact that they are contained and tight in the windows, yet they allow as much or as little light and privacy as desired at any one time. Shutters may not suit you, but you should consider one of the hard treatment alternatives. Once you have established a more permanent treatment for the window, you can easily change whatever you choose to use to decorate around it, as your changing tastes may be.

That is one reason that I love my chosen style so very much. The treatment requires a minimum investment in fabrics and they are easy to sew, easy to mount, and they are easy to take down and clean, or make new ones. On one set, I used a very nice linen fabric and, I added as an after element a side band of a pretty paisley print that is sewn separately and tacked on along the inner edges, under large vintage mother of pearl buttons. It is truly unique, special and quite lovely. Also, this side band can be easily replaced by any one of any other fabric, or just completely removed.

I had a collection of these very large vintage buttons and wanted a way to use them.

Don't obscure or clutter up your one source of outside light in that room!

While it can be really simple to add a band on curtains, I am not sure just where one might go to find a "seamstress" to do any sewing for you anymore. It really is not simple to find that person who will do it for love or for money. And, you really don't want to get some lady at church or a coworker to do a hack job on them.

I used to have a workroom where I sewed curtains. It was all by word of mouth.

I just sold my industrial sewing machine and I had a hard time finding a buyer for it. I finally sold it to a woman who does this type of home sewing but mostly for an ethnic community of which she is a part. The wider general public would have to seek out someone who sews, and that is not easy.

Once you find someone it will be pricey and it is not worth it for a pair of retail curtains. There is nothing wrong with retail curtains, by the way. They have their place, for sure. But, you can't expect of them the same as with well made custom curtains. Certainly not worth paying someone to alter them.
