Schefflera/umbrella tree dying! please help!

i live in south florida and have a schefflera (umbrella) tree that has grown astronomically. i've never had any issues (in 20 years) with this tree but all of a sudden over the last few (3-4?) weeks this tree started drooping leaves and rapidly dropping them. some turn brown and fall off and lots of healthy ones have fallen off too. it's at the point now that there are only a couple of fairly healthy looking branches.

they are drooping while being fully green, and some have turned brown and then fall off.

please have a look at the picture and the video i have just taken. we have had some strong winds but i've had strong winds before but it hasn't done anything to this tree like this. it is definitely coming from the tree. i don't know if it's being overwatered or has a disease or insect or what. i don't see any evidence of whitefly, spiraling or otherwise, which my nearby ficus do tend to get, although i treat it and my ficus are doing ok.

really could use someone's expertise here.

thanks in advance.
