Happy Holidays to all my friends, their families, and loved ones here on GW! Plywood and drywall dust still here, not a decoration in sight, and no home-cooked food, but warmth and cheer in abundance!

Thank you for all the lovely comments, I have to say this is the first Christmas in a long time I've had everything done without a lot of running around at the last minute, it sure was a nice feeling. Vikki the tree topper is a small wreath with lights, in the center there are three little candles. It didn't show very well because we took the pictures without the flash. I bought it at a Boxing Day sale a couple of years ago for $2.99 :o). Tried a couple of other tree toppers first but they didn't look right. We are off to our daughters for "The Turkey Dinner" tonight, for quite a few years now we've had our Christmas dinner on boxing day. This way everybody gets a chance to just hang out and relax on Christmas day. I hope everybody had a very enjoyable Christmas with family and friends....Annette

Merry Christmas to you as well Italiangirl74. A traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes, I'm jealous. Also merry Christmas to the rest of the fig-friends in the forum, even to the non-zonally challenged. (us zone 6ers have it a little harder than the rest of you in this challenge) It looked like we were going to have a white Christmas for sure here, but the rain of the last 2 days have cleared up almost all of it. The forcast does predict snow again, but I'll just have to wait and see. My figs are all tucked in their beds (in a nice dark (putting up) and cool room in my basement). Merry Christmas to all! It’s Christmas morning here and the forecast is for 93F. Better than last week’s 107F :-).

Yes I’m roasting a turkey breast just for DH and I, I love turkey and leftovers. We had the big family gathering last night, BIL and SIL did the turkey but it was dry and the gravy was weird (had mustard in it) :-( I don’t think they really understand turkey, SIL is from Czech Republic and BIL is one of those who can’t be told anything because he’s read a book about it.

They seemed to find the Christmas hosting exhausting so with luck next year it will be at our other SIL’s place. It can’t be mine as DH’s uncle is in a wheelchair in a nursing home and getting a special wheelchair taxi to bring him for the 200km round trip isn’t really a possibility.

I did the ham and the desserts. I was pleased with the ham which I got from my local butcher who smokes his own hams and bacon, both of which are delicious. I saw in the paper he was awarded third in the state competition for hams by the Australian Pork Association. I think this is amazing considering that most of the producers are in the city.

Desserts were a lemon custard tart (a firm family favourite), Eton Mess made with fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, and brownies. I had baked and frozen the brownies earlier in the week and realised yesterday morning that in the rush to pack up for the trip to the city I had forgotten them :-(. Yes, I made the 200km round trip to get them, it was easier than trying to bake another batch at DH’s culinarily limited apartment. But worth it as DH’s nephew scarfed down three as soon as they hit the table :-).

Today just DH and I will have turkey and gravy, bread stuffing and sausagemeat stuffing with cranberries, Brussels sprouts -possibly with bacon (haven’t decided yet), tartiflette, and Portuguese egg tarts for dessert.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Typing on my new present, a Chromebook (and getting used to this keyboard lol). It's a little touchy, but it's nice otherwise. We celebrate on Christmas Eve. They're not the celebrations like we used to have back in the 90's, when I was younger. I do miss those times.

My family celebration was last night, and Elery's family will have theirs on the 29th.

It's a white Christmas here, but it's supposed to be 48F by Friday, so all the snow will be gone. Down to 20F Saturday, so a 30 degree swing in 24 hours, that's Michigan for ya!
