I feel for you, having to go through all the extra time of another appointment and the discomfort, but if you know you aren't going to be listened to, don't run your idea by the staff, Just Do It.

I do think sometimes a dental fit can be improved with time, though I don't have experience with dentures. Maybe those are different. I had a root canal and crown placed last week and the bite felt very high. He adjusted it about 10 times and it was still off so he suggested I live with it and we can see in a few days.

For two or three days the bite was still off and I thought I'd have to go back in, but then suddenly it was okay. Maybe the swelling reduced or it settled? I'm not sure why but it fits fine now.

I do agree that some in the medical professional don't listen well to patients.

It's not that I didn't expect to have to maybe come in again, I know that happens, but I have a feeling if I had done what I wanted to do there could be a good chance one more adjustment would have done the job.

Actually there was an option for tomorrow - a narrow window that I couldn't do since I have to take my Grandson 45 miles away for his infusion appointment - no way to cancel that kind of appointment, they are made a month ahead of time. As for discomfort, hey, I went for many years with missing teeth and was able to eat OK, I'll just take these out when I eat, no biggie there. I just wish these young "professionals" wouldn't treat us like idiots, personally I think as a non-professional senior I have a lot more common sense then most of them do. I also think that their only goal is to get the patient in and out of the chair as quick as possible, dare not suggest that you'd want to take 3 seconds to stick a piece of gum in your mouth and chew 5 or 6 times for heaven's sake!!! Oh, and yes, when we no longer have dental insurance I will be switching to a dentist that takes the simple plan that my Medicare Advantage plan pays for. It won't pay for crowns, bridges, etc. but it does pay for simple exams and cleanings, simple fillings and extractions, etc. I've already asked and this dentist won't work with that kind of insurance - in fact when I asked at the front desk the receptionist kind of wrinkled up her nose in disgust at me even asking about it.

Just be careful with other dentists that take cheaper insurance. I had to switch to a more expensive PPO dental plan because I had terrible experiences with dentists who take HMO trying to get me to do expensive procedures I might not have actually needed. I saw one dentist that seemed nice back in Florida, so I referred two co-workers to him for their cleaning exams and, surprisingly, all 3 of us, in our early 20's, needed crowns at nearly $1k each. I find that a suspicious coincidence.
