succulent arrangement

I just received a lovely succulent arrangement, tree shaped, about a foot tall. There are no directions about its care. It is lovely, with various succulents on it, and I am wondering how to water it. I went to the succulent forum but it's very lacking in info and not recent at all. I thought that perhaps someone here might help me.

Phyllis, actually the cactus/succulent forum is quite active, and there are some very knowledgeable people there who are always willing to help. Rina, Kara and many others. So if you post a photo, be sure to post here and the cactus/succulent forum as well. It sounds very pretty. One thing is for sure, it will appreciate being near your brightest window, and if it's "in the round," give it a quarter turn every week or so.

Do you have a pic? Succulents have moisture in the fleshy leaves and do not require frequent watering.

Different types of succulents require dfferent types of care :-) Some want more water; some want less and some want virtually none at all in winter. Light requirements vary as well but most want bright but indirect light and as much as they can get. That's why most growers of succulents do not like 'arrangements' or groupings of various succulents and will separate them into individual containers almost immediately. And many times they are planted and sold in a potting mix that is too moisture retentive.

Without seeing the arrangement (photos?) or knowing what succulents it contains, it is impossible to be more specific.

A lot of times they have little plants growing in tiny plugs about the size of a pill bottle-that's usually how these are planted. We stick stuff in plug trays to let them grow/root and then up-pot, or use in planters. While this photo is really pretty those succulents will grow and the fast growers will quickly overtake the rest of the pot. Usually when I do planters I give the plants plenty of room so they can grow. Personally I prefer single-pots because I can rearrange my deck easier that way. It's also less headache since you don't have to consider which plants have the closest needs in terms of light, watering, & soil.

It looks great:)! Totally up to you. The only reason I would say it may be a good idea to take a couple plants out is because it's about to be our rainy season so removing plants will help with air circulation:). It's not a big deal if you don't want too. As long as you don't let them get drenched. I tend to overcrowd my arrangements. I like the look:). Another negative to overcrowding is pests have easier access to more plants.

So, now you have their names Sabbu. Re. your other questions: They are all succulents, so yes, you could put them in the same kind of soil. Remember to use pots with a drainage hole at the bottom, it is a must. You will need saucers underneath the pots, so I can't see why you couldn't water the plants from the underneath by filling the saucers with water for 15 minutes, or so, infrequently, and dispose unused water after. Watering from above would not kill them, but why to flush the soil of nutrients every time you water your plants? When watering from the above you will need saucers underneath, too, to catch the excess of water and dispose it. The first plant looks over watered to me, may be you water it too frequently. Now, since you have your cute plants names you can look on the Net for more information how to care for them.

Do you know the name of the company that created the arrangement? If so, contact them and ask their advice. Be sure to tell them that no information was included with the delivery.

If it is like most of those arrangements the plants all want differing care. A photo might help but also post a link or separate picture over in the Cacti and Succulents group. You may want to keep it together for the holidays then replant in separate containers especially if you find they have differing care requirements.

One of my major gripes about succulent collections that are sold at garden centers is they mix what looks good together with little regard to growth requirements. I think the florists do the same.

Are the plants in soil of some kind, or is it intended to be a fresh arrangement in Oasis (wetblock)?

I agree with Socks that the cacti-succulent forum is very active. If you post a photo there, you should get some good responses. I have a large collection of succulents myself, but I grow all of mine outdoors and most are planted in the ground. This is because my climate is very similar to that of South Africa. If you are in a cold climate, you will have different issues, but there are plenty of Canadians posting in the succulent forum, and Rina is one of them.

Thank you for the help, all. I cannot really see what it is planted in but I did a bit of digging and it seems to be on a wire base which is on a vertical round something. The whole thing is very heavy. As to the names of the various plants, I'm at a loss, but there seem to be at least a dozen different ones. I have it in the best sunlight I can find, and will do the turning every week. I will probably have to take it apart to replant but will wait until after the holidays.
