Grassy type plant, what could it be?
Comments (6)Sounds like soft rush, or Juncus effusus. Not soft at all, don't poke yourself in the eye with it! the proverbial sharp stick in the eye. BTDT. Also does NOT need water. I had it all over my excessively drained, unirrigated gravelly sandy loam rural property where almost nothing stayed green over the summer, except this stuff. Perfectly happy in bone dry gravel or waterlogged silt, whatever. It is native from Alaska to Baja and inland to Manitoba and Idaho. Its wetland indicator status is listed as FacW, which means it's somewhat more likely than not to be found in a wetland, but not at all restricted to wet soil, unlike something like cattail. Described as most common Juncus in our area and I know I see it everywhere. I once took a class in cedar bark weaving and we learned how to make bootlaces from this stuff....See Morewhat type of shingle roof
Comments (4)The house was built in 1932. When we did the home inspection when we bought the house about 3 years ago, the home inspector did tell us that the roof was near the end of it's life. It did leak before and we sort of patched it. I'll get additional estimates and such though - good idea. The guy who came by dealt with us honestly in the past - when he didn't have to. Nevertheless that doesn't mean he'll do the same now. S...See MoreWhat type roof sheathing?
Comments (5)What size rafters and what are their spans. A 1x6 spaced sheathing with shakes is a relatively light weight roof. By leaving them, you are adding quite a bit of weight with the sheathing regardless of ply or osb. The presidentials are a fairly weighty shingle as well so you want to make sure your existing rafters are going to hack it. If the rafters are spec'd for the weight and you leave the 1x's, you could get by with 1/2". Without the 1x's, I would go 5/8" ply or osb. Personally I prefer plywood, exterior grade no less than 7 plies per sheet but in your drier climate, osb is fine and costs a tad less than a decent plywood. In humid, wet areas where you can have condensation concerns, I would steer away from osb....See MoreCould use some opinions on a roof color
