Start with function...do you need privacy? Light control? Insulation? Or do you just want to add softness and fabric?

I would say privacy is the main issue, especially at night. I will leave them open during the day as I like the natural light.

I would consider doing shades then. You can put them under a valance to hide them during the day. Or you can do just a straight shade...roman or other style. They can be fabric or duettes or woven wood. But if you go with the latter, be sure to get them lined for privacy.

There really is no end to the possibilites...do a search in houzz on things like roman shades or valances, etc. and you'll be able to page through lots of ideas.

Three rods might look very busy, and the finials would bump into one another - no space to actually hang fabric. On one rod, I would use stationary panels. If they were functional (closing over the glass), the stackback will end up covering the the glass. Consider slim stationary panels if you want color/pattern/texture and something like well tailored roman shades for privacy.

I'd do some sort of textured natural shade--bamboo, matchstick, grass, etc.

Even though some of these treatments have valances or curtain panels, they work very well on their own, as they have attached valances that hide the inner workings. You can have them lined if you want for privacy or blackout purposes, and they come in all manner of colors and materials. They add a nice organic texture to a simple interior.

The valance can go above the window but should be long enough to cover the top of the shade on the window. The doors would probably just be an inside mount with no valance as the valance would interfere with the operation of the door.

I would forego the valance if you're hanging Romans. If you really want valances, then where it mounts, depends on the length and the style. For the most part, they don't get mounted up high unless there's a specific reason for it.

If you want to outside mount Roman shades, they wouldn't normally be mounted that high either.

I'd do one long rod with drapes that all stack back to the right hand side. :)

Forget the valance! They can look dated far too easily. You don't need a valance here - keep it simple.
