Vern, I had the same issue in my bath. I wanted to see out the window and I wanted the light, but I didn't want anyone seeing in past a certain level. I used Gallery Glass from Michaels to solve my problem. I did my own design but you can buy designs and patterns. I laid the tape pre-made (the black lines) and cut it with a little exacto knife. Then I dotted "solder joints" on the seams where the tape met (you don't cross one piece with another). Once that was done, it was easy to paint the window in. The clear parts are done with something that goes on white and looks and smells like Elmer's glue. You just make lots of little circles with the tip of the bottle. The finished look is quite attractive. Here is what I did. It blocks a couple of inches on the bottom (all I needed) and leaves the center clear for me to look out at the yard and the trees: It doesn't need a window treatment now, so I don't have to launder one. Plus I enjoy looking at it every time I'm in there. It will last for years (I know a gal who has one that's ten years old and still just fine) but if I ever tired of it I could scrape it off with a razor blade. My son liked it so much he had me do a front door sidelight for him. He wanted his all opaque. It lets in light, but people can't look in and see your face. You can see his blue porch rail through the window toward the bottom, to give you an idea of how much view it obscures (though I suppose you could make it thicker if you wanted): As you can see, with this technique you can decide which areas of the window to "frost" and which (if any) to leave clear. Both my son and I are very happy with our Gallery Glass windows. They took me a little time to do but it was worth it. If nobody in your family wants to try that, they also make a window film similar to what you used that mimics stained glass. I think it's a lot more pleasant than the frosted film, but that's just my preference. Anyway, just a thought for you of a different option.

Charming! I would think woven woods or darker bamboo blinds would be great, to pick up on the brown tones and fences in the fabric. The only thing about any of those is that you canÂt really control the amount of light - they are either covering the window or pulled up. So I would look for the wood (or faux wood) blinds that give you light and air control, and still connect with the brown tones and fencing. PenneyÂs is a great place, because they always have coupons and sales, even on the made-to-measure. DonÂt hurry and settle for something - you can always put up temporary paper blinds to help block the light if you canÂt get ready-made blinds. Lucky little boy!

By cafe curtains, do you mean the tiered set? I'm just not sure what that means? I always think of kitchen curtains! How would I mount a curtain rod from the ceiling? I once had regular curtain rods before I put in the seat, but with the roller shades, there is no place to put the rod hooks. I don't want to block off the windows as in the first photos-I mostly need to be able to block the extreme sunlight and provide some evening privacy if needed.

I'd do some sort of textured natural shade--bamboo, matchstick, grass, etc. Even though some of these treatments have valances or curtain panels, they work very well on their own, as they have attached valances that hide the inner workings. You can have them lined if you want for privacy or blackout purposes, and they come in all manner of colors and materials. They add a nice organic texture to a simple interior.
