Large Window Treatment Advice Needed

These are the largest windows in our 1968 built brick ranch. The 3 unit Living Room window faces north and the street. The 2 window Dining Room unit faces South and has a back yard view. We will likely need to repace this one with another similar style within a year, as the wood is starting to deteriorate on the outside.

Considerations are clean lines, and not fussy or formal. We will decorate in Country Cottage, not too kitchy, but with a little European flair. This is a moderately priced Midwest Suburban neighborhood. We also have 4 hairy pets, including 1 not declawed young cat, who is very active. The house had aluminum mini-blinds throughout when we moved in. They obscured a lot of view, and were a royal pain to keep dusted. We can't break the bank at this time. I do like the look of something mounted inside each individual frame. Also, blinds would probably have to be custom width. Any suggestions welcomed.

I have large and many windows, but I don't have the cat issue...would he/she claw drapes?

Probably roman blinds are your best bet...

Curtain panels would be the cost effective choice. A textured linen look panel would work with your decorating style. Do you have room to stack the panels on the outside of the windows?

I think as long as you keep the exterior color consistent, it's fine. The window over the foyer isn't going to match unless you're going to get up and down a ladder every night to raise or lower a shade, which you're not. In that case, I'd just use a fully retractable window cover, like the roller shade or duettes so that, at least, during the day when you're most likely to see them, the windows will be largely clear. If you do choose to put a valance over the bedroom windows to hide the shades, then you may wish to put one of the same shape over the foyer window as well...they don't need to match color on the interior, but make sure the exterior lining is the same.

They do make shads for half rounds, but that wouldn't fit properly in this case. You are going to need to do something a bit "custom" in nature and I would do it out of the same materials that the blinds will be done in (assuming fabric vs. wood).

how about you explore other options? wouldn't it be nice to let some light in the room? blinds.com has so many options. I've used them on at least 10 different blinds over the years. Bali/Levolor are two of the brands they use.

@Ely M Beautiful inside too! Gorgeous floors. Love those windows & would be a shame to hide any of the features of them on inside. I’m guessing windows are centered on the wall - looks off in picture but guessing that’s angle. I’ve never seen angled rods as @threers suggests. I also think any inside mount blinds would be custom & $$$$ due to shape & I don’t think outside mount fits these windows. I would go with drapes with the rod just above highest point on center window & with panels that split in middle & pull half to each side. I see the vent at lower right so you may need to use shorter length that ends just below sill. Even though the other window just like this one is evidently in another room, if you want to cover it at night, use same kind of drapes so the view is the same from street & the back side of drapes should be white. BTW, love the hanging light too!

what do you mean by " you like like the look of something mounted inside each individual frame"? Do you want something for privacy? Do you want to be able to see out of the window with some privacy, or does that matter to you?

pennydesign, I will check out that link, thank you. I am afraid that my cat might very well try to climb up the window panels. He's ornery like that.

d_gw, Unfortunately there is not adequate space to each side of the window trim to stack the panels. :-(

auntqueenie, I was wanting some moderate privacy, especially in the front of the house. The kind that sheer or semi-sheers would provide. That side faces north, so it is not a matter of controlling sunlight. However, we get full sun from the south on the dining room side, 2 unit window, so it might be helpful to be able to control sunlight on that side occasionally.

I did some research, and saw some tips that suggested using individual panels mounted with tension rods. I just couldn't picture that and I had not seen any images. Thank you all.
