Home Decorating Bedroom Design Dilemma

Need help finishing my daughters room.

I’m not sure what type of window treatment I should go with or what type and size of area rug to get. I haven’t figured out what to do with the wall where the desk is. She does Martial Arts and would like somewhere to put her belts and awards. Her desk area she requested a place to hang her drawings, pictures, etc. She would also like some twinkling lights in there. Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What a sweet room. Since you already have a window shade, if your daughter likes it, I think a nice puffy white valance would be really cute.

For the awards and belts, I like one of those peg style coat hangars that you use in a hallway, She can hang multiple awards on each peg... and you could even do a diy one if you were up to it.

I love the chenille area rugs from Target. They are about 3 x 5 I bought two of them about 10 years ago (at least) and they are still going pretty strong. I like that I can shake the dust out of them outside and run them through the wash and/or dryer to clean. I use a rug pad underneath to make them a bit more comfy and to make sure they don't slip so much. I have one in a mixed green, and one in a mixed purple. I know I've seen pink as well (not sure what you're looking for). They make a nice cozy spot to sit on the floor and read, play, whatever.

How about a twinkle light headboard and a cool bulletin board over the desk?

Wow, you know I'm not so sure about your question regarding the chair rail. Of course typical height from what I understand is 32-36 inches depending on chair height and such, but for this situation, that's a good question. The concern I would have about putting it too much higher would be a matter of proportion and how pleasing to the eye that would be. If 36 inches is still too low, you may want to consider doing a separate thread and asking what heights other people ended up with when doing something similar. In regards to color for the rail, that is totally up to you, but I wouldn't worry about matching it to the furniture. I would want to match the rail with the trim and doors because it looks more cohesive. Glad you like the polk-a-dot idea, just keep them sparce, it won't take a lot to give it that fun look.

I think a soft peach would be very nice. You could accent with green tending towards olive vs a more kiddie green. And it would look great with the bedding and window coverings. SW Quaint Peche (from Houzz)

Love the bedding and the pink accent items. The bedside lamp is super cute. Perhaps a valance or some curtain panels in a pink print like used in that toss pillow on the bed would add a nice touch to the window. Good luck finding some art work/pictures for the walls.

You could easily do a cork bulletin board behind her desk so she could hang whatever art she wanted to on it. Then drape hanging lights over the headboard. We like the idea of a wall mount coat rack for her martial arts belts. For displaying awards, she should be able to put them on top of the dresser or you could mount a shelf on top of the coat rack. For the window you could just get a white roller shade or valance.

Thank you Betty for your suggestions. I am going to get her a cork bulletin board. The light suggestion is a great idea as well. We like the idea of the roller shade but for the size of her window they aren’t the cheapest but we will continue to look. Thanks again.
