Need help finishing my bedroom
Comments (23)hello, I see where your husband is coming from. I would not want to cover the picture window either. Here are the options I would consider and just go with whatever ended up looking best to me: (1) Move the bed in front of the small window, raise the curtain rod to the ceiling and put the tan curtains on that rod, making sure that the top of the curtains went to the ceiling and covered the top of the window--this would mean putting the rod on the crown--which is the one thing that makes me question if this is the right thing to do. Also, extend the rod the width of the bed--so the curtains both go to the ceiling as well as fill the entire space behind the bed. Then I would move the picture window curtain rod up higher and put new panels on either side than can be opened or closed. You would need new panels as the existing ones would then be too short once you move the rod up higher--plus they would now be on the small window beside the bed. you could put the butterfly pics on either side of the picture window if the scale is right. (2) Alternatively, with the bed in front of the small window, you could do some type of tapestry, that again starts at the ceiling and covers the entire window and space above the bed. Maybe made from a twin size quilt, like you suggested. (3) Finally, consider the roman shade--however, i am not sure if the scale might be too small. But if you got a really nice fabric and had the shade lowered--the decorative effort may be just as good or better than the curtain or large fabric. And then you could put artwork on either side of the window. If you go this route then I would either paint the window trim the same as the crown or use a more contrasting stain--something darker than what it is now. In any event, from what I can see of the room, it looks like the curtain rod with the tan curtains should be higher. However, I can't see any pics of it straight on, so it may be just fine. And perhaps some artwork flanking that window. Good luck! That little window is hard to work around!...See MoreNeed help with finishing touches for guest bedroom
Comments (18)Ingrid, I am a retired children's librarian and I was drawn to the colorful pillows because they reminded me of the illustrations in the old picture books from the sixties. That was very perceptive of you to get a child's vibe from that. I totally agree-no more blue! I love the idea of botanical prints and have been looking online for something with yellow and pink or red. When we get the furniture arranged, I'll hang the art over the bed lower as you suggest. katinparadise, I like the idea to paint the blue frames black. And thanks for the folding advice for the throw. I'm actually wondering if a different throw would look better. Would a different color look better? Red, darkish yellow? I never realized that blues are so hard to match. mrykbee, I'm still eying that cute little rocker you showed me yesterday and I love the welcome basket idea. I had the same thought about taking the mirror off during the winter months when we need to use the thermostat. auntthelma, I agree that moving the thermostat would be the best solution. I just painted this room myself last month and got my husband to get rid of the old intercom grill. I don't know why we didn't think about moving the thermostat at the same time. The good thing is, we're both pretty handy and I have leftover paint, so hopefully we can get ourselves in gear and just move it. I do not understand why they put it where it is. The heater is on the opposite wall! But I do love the baseboard heaters with each room having its own control. Thank you all so much for your suggestions. My 91-year-old dad often visits us for weeks on end and I think he'll get a kick out of the new, fancy surroundings....See MoreExercise Room turned Guest Bedroom Finishing Touches

Comments (5)It's so pretty! I don't know if there is enough room to do this, but I might look for solid draperies the same color as the walls and center the bed on the window. Or at least move it away from the wall. Just kind of ignore the window. It will be difficult for guests to enter and exit the bed and for making it/changing linens. I'd look at art shows, galleries, thrift or consignment stores for art you like. You don't need much!...See MoreIowacommute
