Help me pick a (double bowl?) sink for 30" cab
Comments (12)To follow up on this thread, I ended up going to a showroom and seeing the Vigo sink I loved in pictures/ online, and turns out - it was nice but not worth the extra trouble of jury-rigging it. I ended up going with the double Kraus 60/40 D shaped sink, with D-shaped for main sink and more mini-rectangular for the breakaway sink and I LOVE it! the main sink is big enough for most of our bigger pans, and the side sink is perfect for washing vegetables or smaller pans, filling our water filter carafe etc., and it's deep. What I love about Kraus is that it came with all these extras like a grid at the bottom, and strainers, and I bought a big hefty faucet as part of the package and it's really artistic and pretty. The whole package was around $600 from faucet direct - not cheap don't get me wrong, but including a matching faucet with the sink and the extras meant it looks good and cleans up well... after all the back and forth, deciding mostly among Vigo, Franke and Kraus (with a little of some other manufacturers in there) and wanting a 70/30 and "settling" for a 60/40, and not wanting a D-shaped - it worked out in the end....See MoreSingle vs double bowl sink - a Singaporean dilemma
Comments (47)Tony, I have lived and worked and looked in Asia and am familiar with no hot water, no DW kitchens. That being said, I think a separate water source and prep area is extremely critical.. Especially in Asian style cooking, water is your most often used ingredient. Instead of a double bowl, I would suggest a single bowl cleanup sink.. Even 24 " would work or one of those IKEA sinks that are deeper front to back..and a small prep-sink (think a bowl big enough to wash spinach or 2kgs of veggies.) that is away from the cleanup area.. It is yucky to wash veggies near a pile of smelly dirty dishes. Especially without dishwasher, these dishes do tend to pile up until they are scrubbed and put away at end of the day. My friend in Mumbai remodeled her flat and added a prep sink and really loves it. She used a really narrow sink as she has a tiny kitchen. small bar sink j Here is a link that might be useful: Small stainless prep sink...See MoreDouble bowl vs. single bowl sink?
Comments (30)I have a 65/35 double sink which I would not trade for a single since I use it for both prep and clean every day, and don't like the idea of having raw meat and dirty veggies in the main sink I use for cleanup at the same time. But there are about 4 to 6 occasions per year that I wish I had a larger sink ... especially when I want to soak my 20" rangetop grill. What I did was bought a super-large roasting pan (24x14) that I can use as a temporary "large soaking sink" when I want to clean the grill. Got that idea last Easter when I realized that's how I washed my 17" roasting pan ... i.e., filled it with soapy water and let it soak on the counter beside the sink. Thought then, "hey if only this was bigger I could wash the grill at the same time". So I bought a bigger one, and now I have the best of all worlds that works for me....See MoreAny 30" 60/40 single basin sinks?
Comments (1)The Franke Orca sink. The way you've worded your post is confusing which might be why you've had a hard time finding the sink. The Franke Orca is very popular. Keep in mind that a "60/40 sink" is always taken to mean a double-bowl sink like your current one, not the single-bowl sink you are looking for. I am only telling you this so you'll have an easier time shopping for your sink. Franke Orca Sink in stainless steel...See Moreflora2b
