Comments (4)I will look to see if I have a floor plan, but if not, how would i go about creating one for you. I know I sound like an idiot but obviously I am clueless as to this kind of stuff and wish my husband would just let me hire a decorator lol! However, he just now gave me another big fat NO to hiring one lol! So needless to say, I am going to have to learn how to do this on my own and asking for help, however annoying I may be, is the only thing I know to do! So I apologize in advance for my ignorance! I will look for the floor plan! Thanks for responding!...See MoreRemodel of my open concept kitchen, dining area and great room.
Comments (10)hmmm, I dont want to sound rude, but, as a lighting person, it seems nutzo that you didnt change the lighting plan. I see you do use the fan which I understand. But that blaring can shining at the person siting at the head of the table........not good. and the one that is blaring down on the person that sits on the end of the sofa also not good. On top of that, who needs two can lights shining into the tv over the fire place?? Man who ever installed this should have brought these things to light (no pun intended.) I would add two more can lights and one light for over the dining table. Then I would replace the fan with one that has no lights and is all white or cream to blend away and be a touch on the modern side. The table, (yes to a rug) will fit just fine in line with the sliding doors....See MoreHow do you make area rugs cohesive in an open concept room?
Comments (3)Start with a company that makes different sized rugs in the same look. A runner along the 'stool side' of the island is not a good idea...but you will find that out soon enough. I would nix that option right now. That means the rug in front of the sink won't really matter because it will be hidden from 90% of the rest of the house...so that one doesn't have to follow suit with anything. That reduces the purchase by 2. Now that brings us to the living room and dining area rugs. That means you have 3 to coordinate instead of 5. Excellent. Now we are getting somewhere. First things first. Put your anchors into place (the furniture) and live with it for a month or two. Put up your wall art. Go shopping to get ideas...do not purchase until you have a 'feel' for what is going on in your home. Don't do anything until you decide your accent colour/pattern. That's when you start to coordinate your soft finishes...like pillows, drapes, area rugs. Do NOT do anything until you have your big expensive stuff set up. Once you live with gray on gray for a while you will discover that you CRAVE something. That something is colour. And try to stick with the same shape of rugs. Adding in a round rug when you have two rectangles can be tricky....See MoreLayout and furniture help for open concept living room!
Comments (56)I doubt you can squeeze the bookcase and sofa on shelf wall. There is a sequence to use in redesigning a room. 1. Determine layout of main pieces. 2. Select rug(s). 3. Select wall and ceiling color(s). 4. Paint. 5. Ensure everything works well, make adjustments as needed. 6. Set out wall hangings to determine best layouts. 7. Hang art. 8. Add final accessories such as decorative pillows and throws, trays and plants. Sometimes this sequence isn’t possible but if not roughly followed a lot of redo is generally needed which takes more time and resources....See More- K T thanked J Design Group - Interior Designers Miami - Modern
