White kitchen cabinet paint and trim paint - need help
Comments (1)I love BM Simply White. I'm using it now on my exterior trim and will use it on all my interior trim as well. It's a nice, bright warm white. Regarding the sheen, BM paints (IMHO) seem to be shinier than other paints I've used. The "low luster" exterior that I'm using now actually has quite a bit of luster! I used the exterior "soft gloss/satin" on my front door and it actually looks more like a semi-gloss to me ... it's quite shiny. Personally, I would not want semi-gloss on my cabinets and would want something less shiny and reflective. While I might go with the painter's suggestion regarding the brand of paint to use (maybe he has better results with one over the other), I would want to choose the finish myself after looking at the different sheen levels on actual wood. samples. They had those at my BM dealer and they actually painted a couple of wood samples for me to bring home....See MoreBM Simply White walls with Super White trim
Comments (88)@HU-969855738 I was terribly busy yesterday and didn't get the opportunity to respond to you. The three colors I picked out when I made my suggestions were very different undertones, but were meant as examples of the depth of color. There are two factors that go into finding the perfect color that are really difficult to do via the internet. One is that color preferences are extremely personal and two, colors have to be looked at as a collection of colors. It must be 25 or 30 years ago when I came home to Pennsylvania for Christmas. Back then, when my mom was still alive, the entire family gathered at her house for Christmas Eve. It was quite the celebration and we all took pains to find the perfect outfit. My sister Betty lived here in Pennsylvania, Susie drove in from New Jersey and I flew in from California. Apparently there was one outstanding velvet pant suit sold across the US that season. My two sisters and I had all bought it. I have ivory skin and dark sable brown hair and dark brown eyes. I bought the deep Christmas Red. Susie has olive skin and golden brown hair and brown eyes. She bought it in deep Emerald Green. Betty has dark blond hair, fair skin and hazel eyes. She bought it in deep Navy Blue. We obviously have very similar taste, but our coloring is not the same and our homes reflect these same differences. We all live in Pennsylvania now, but Betty's home is decorated in a contemporary style and her color palette is soft beige and pastels. Susie has a tudor home with an eclectic mix of Antique and Industrial furnishings with a fall color palette, deep oranges, golds, browns and greens. My home is an MCM home with MCM teak furnishings. I am renovating, but my color palette is being pulled from the colorful slate entry (called Red/Purple/Green slate). Walls have not yet been painted, but here is a picture that shows the entry tile (with drywall dust): I am using a lot of reds, teals and gray purples (my final decor will not include a paint sprayer on the hearth). To know what will work for you we need to understand what your style is and what colors make your heart sing. What are you using with the Super White trim?...See MoreTrim and Ceiling Paint -SW Pure White trim - What white for ceilings?
Comments (27)We closed on our house today wahoooo! I only got to spend about an hour there but looked quickly at the samples for trim/doors/ceilings. I think I've narrowed it down to three possibilities: BM Simply White, SW Extra White and BM Super White. I thought about BM Chantilly Lace too. Basically, looking at the finishings, my first gut is that BM Simply White looks the best. I just worry it may look too yellow once up on everything. At least that's what I read (and you know how reliable the internet is). First question: has anyone had experience with BM Simply White? Does it just read warm or do you see the yellow in it when it's one trim/doors/ceilings? So I may go that direction, or wonder if I should go with a cleaner white but something close. Something still a little warm... As for the runners up, from what I can see SW Extra White and BM Super White are very similar but Extra White maybe looks a little warmer? Maybe because it has more chroma? Is this understanding accurate, Lori A. Sawaya?? And it seems to me that the order of warmth would go SW Extra White, BM Super White, BM Chantilly Lace... is that a correct reading? Again for context - East/West exposures with a lot of shade. Wall colors aren't chosen but would likely be something along the lines of BM Edgecomb Gray, BM Ballet White, BM Chelsea Gray, BM Natural Cream. Daughter's room will be BM Opal. I'll try to take some pics of the finishings tomorrow but would love any thoughts on this. Thanks!...See MoreHelp with white kitchen: cabinets, walls, trim in different whites?
Comments (10)@Gaby Buller Take a look at SW 7042 Shoji White, for the walls. You can definately do a beautiful white palette. Since all color has a DNA (Hue family, Value and Chroma), you can be guided by framework to create a palette that is harmonious and pleasing to your eye. When pairing whites, a good principle that works is having at minimum 0.2 difference in Chroma (last number) between your whites. A little spacing on the color wheel also helps. This principle ensures there is enough contrast between your whites so that one will look more neutral than the other, and they don't look dingy or dirty. The other way to add contrast is to change the sheen level. For example, you can play with sheen levels on BM White Dove and use it as the Trim Color, in a higher sheen than the cabinets and use BM White Dove in Matte on the walls. This will also provide the contrast your eye needs without looking dull. Other colors that may fit your vision and work with the above mentioned framework are: SW 7013 Ivory Lace SW 7010 White Duck SW 9586 White Sesame BM OC-13 Soft Chamois...See MoreKim Donovan
