XP: need help with white kitchen cabinets on white walls
Comments (20)Chiming in late, but wanted to say after reading the posts, gsciencechick, you never have to be embarrassed with us. We're are all here to help each other. Whether you have a big kitchen or small kitchen, old or new, we want to see it be the best it can be within each person's budget constraints. That said, I think your kitchen is very cute and has huge potential! alex's link to that white kitchen with the blue backsplash can give you the inspiration to take your kitchen in a direction without breaking the bank. As you search through the kitchen forum, you will see many people who have done amazing things to their kitchens all by themselves with paint and tile and light fixtures, knobs and pulls etc and are very pleased with the result. You'll get lots of good ideas here. Some you will like, others you won't. No one is offended if you don't take them and do them. Just keep posting and eventually you will have a kitchen you and DH are very proud of....See MoreLove Monochromatic - White Walls, Kitchen Cabinets, & Trim
Comments (1)We're currently remodeling our bathroom in all white, but because our bathroom is very small we're keeping all the whites the same. This is by no means the rule, but in close quarters one white can make a different white look dingy. We've built our own bathroom vanity and linen cabinet and plan to do a board and batten wall treatment. We're keeping it all the same: Benjamin Moore's Simply White. It is a bright white, but with gray undertones it does have color compared to paper white. I agree that varying the sheen gives interest and depth & I will vary the sheen from satin on the vanity, linen cabinet and trim (using a product called Cabinet Coat - formerly insl-x) to matte for the walls. Although many decorating posts rave about BM's White Dove, we found our painted sample to be too dark with almost a greenish gray undertone. Had we put that in close proximity to the simply white, it would have looked dirty, however in a larger space you might be able to work with a few whites without that problem. Personally I would keep the light whites on cabinets and furniture and deeper whites on the walls. I've included the URL for a very informative page in determining the intensity and undertones of Benjamin Moore whites. Good luck! Comments (2)thank you so much for your response! The floors are quarter sawn white oak that will be stained a warm med tone walnut color. nothing too dark. I did realize when i posted this that my cabinets will touch the ceiling so I decided to go with the same white throughout most of the house on the ceilings, Decorators White. On the top floor, which is our master bedroom suite I think I'm going to use the Chantilly lace. It's a bit darker up there and I'm trying to make it as bright as possible. Thats the color of our vanity in the masterbath, so I may just do all the trim and ceilings that color. That floor is a clean break from all the other walls and trim, so it won't look like a mistake! Truthfully the place was a mess before renovation (we bought it that way) so I really just want everything clean and white!! I may end up doing what you suggested with the walls...still wishing for white, but don't I can steer away from the Decorators white without making the cabinets look dingy....See MoreWhite Axstad cabinets, White Dove Walls & Trim - will this work? Comments (11)The safest answer is to get the cabinets, get a white that matches the cabinets to paint the trim and then pick an off white that looks great with your whiter white for the walls or use the same color for the walls and trim and cabinets and use different sheens on the walls and trim....See MoreGaby Buller
